Had to replace the radiator in my daughter's Toyota Camry this weekend. It would have been a lot easier had it not been for those hose clamps that can be locked open. Perhaps there's a special tool to open and lock them, but they're a pain the rear when the locking tab keeps you from being able to open them completely with a pair of pliers. I finally decided to cut the locking tab off one of them to get it back on the hose and radiator fitting, and just replaced another with a standard screw-type hose clamp. The locking tab in no way changes the force of the clap once it's placed on the hose and fitting.

Perhaps the design makes it easier for a "once on" factory installation.

They come off easy enough but are hard to open up again to reinstall. The tool for those is a bit pricey. I just replace them with regular hose clamps. There is a video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eT4wEbIC_pU using waterpump pliers and a second set of pliers to lock them open.

You can buy A LOT of easy to use hose clamps for what it costs for the special tools needed to work with these oddballs.

I've owned Toyota vehicles since the late 70's and have always been impressed with how they design them for easy maintenance. These hose clamps are in no way designed with ease of use in mind.
