Depends on your budget. If you're just starting out you'll likely not notice any difference between the two other than base mag.
If your budget allows, go with the 50.

The Apex line is about 900.00 less than the Trail.

The Apex has everything the Trail has except; rechargeable batteries, wifi and video recording.

If you hunt beyond 100 yards I would recommend the 50. If you want to video your hunts the trail is the choice. I decided to apply the difference in price between the 38 and the 50 toward the ApexXQ 50 because I get a lot of 200+ yard shots. So I went for dollars toward distance instead of video.

You can buy a DVR that plugs into the Apex for about 300.00 but if you really want distance and video I would pay 600.00 more and get the Trail.

I love the XQ50.. My accuracy shooting off a tripod is probably only good to 300yds and under, and the XQ50 is well capable of that. Just have to get use to their reticles.

Do you have to worry about loose dogs (pets) where you hunt fox? The hard thing is not shooting foxes when you're yote hunting (I live in Ohio, but hunt Texas yearly). So you prob aren't worried about mistakenly shooting a coyote. Have to know the features and way they move to help ID outside of say 100yds (inside 100 is easy I'd say). I'd go 200yds or more if you are versed in how the move. Of course a lot further under the right circumstances.

In this video I had 2 yotes come barreling in from 500+ yds out, no question even at that distance they were yotes and I was using a lower res spotter. They were about 150 yds out when they stop on top of the hill.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e99FtNW-C3s
