Found this beast at an Estate sale today. U S M C Corpsman knife. They were made from 1942 to 1944 and from what I've researched, were issued to about one out of four Navy Corpsman serving with the Marines during WW II.
This beast is 16 3/4" inches long and is 1/4 to 5/16 thick and weighs a ton. Unfortunately the original sheath and scales aren't there but I still thought it was a neat find.

Wow! What a find! I'm almost afraid to ask, but: What did the corpsmen do with them? Amputations??

Very cool find! I've got one, still in the scabbard, that was left to me.

The corpsman knife was a bolo-type knife that was generally used for clearing brush and cutting wood for litters, shelter, and poles.

There are some on EBay and at least one is listed as a Medical knife. Maybe amputations is right.

Neat find.

From what I read the medical knife and amputation use was just unfounded rumors.

Very cool.
If you are handy adding some scales would be a neat project.

Hey Mike, will you please return the knife blanks and wood handle scales to me, seems that you are ok and still alive because your able to keep posting...go ahead and keep all the wood and ivory and I'll just chalk it up as a dumb deal on my part. I'll find somebody else to to do the job.
