Hello to all. I have a question that I’m sure someone has figured out. I have only a Kubota 52 hp tractor and a Kawasaki Mule UTV. I have a great culti-packer, disc, hole auger, box blade , etc.... The thing I am missing is a really good seed /fertilize broadcaster. I used to have one that held about 50lbs and worked conected to my BILs 4 wheeler —which he sold. It was tedious anyway and only did 50lbs at a time.

Any recommendations. I can’t afford a drill and have all the other tools. I need a great broadcast spreader. Thanks

Are you wanting one to drag with the mule or the tractor?

I really don’t want a PULL behind. I would rather have one that has a 3 point hookup for the tractor and run off the PTO, or one that attaches to the front or rear tailgate of the Mule

$500.00 at your favorite supply house / co-op. If I recall they’ll take 350#s.

The 3 point pto driven spin cast type spreaders are all fairly similar.
I'd pick one that can adjust coverage side to side & has a gear box that can be serviced.

The newest one I have is an agrex xa 500.

I saw one at Tractor Supply, if I remember correctly about $500. I have never seen a used one for sale.

Buy seed from the feed store and they will most likely let you use their fertilizer spreader to broadcast it for free.......

Why not a pull behind? I've been looking at the ones they sell at Atwoods and Tractor Supply and in my mind, it seems better to get one on wheels that I can pull with just about anything. Taking off the bush hog to pull attach a seed spreader for a few hours seems like a lot of work, only to have to take it off again before using my tractor. If I had one with wheels, I could pull it with my Mule, or even my truck.

TSC CountyLine Fertilizer / Seed spreader

these work very well. I have found used ones on Craigslist or at independent used tractor lots for $300-350 that someone bought to seed native grasses in some pastures, one time use over a month time span. be patient and you can usually find one in a few weeks this time of year.

I use a pull behind type that picked up from Craig's List but my plots are small (about an acre). It works great but agree a three-point type is best if you intend to place several acres.

I'll 2nd second, 3rd or 4th the 3 point from TSC, I have had 2 over the years, the one I currently have I bought in 05, just make sure you rinse damn good after using any fertilizer and keep lubed. Easy to deal with the couple times of year you will use it.

I have also used the big buggies many times from the feed store, but that was when I had much more land and a need to fertilize a lot more acreage, would even bother for something less than 1200# since I have the TSC spreader.

There are some places on FB and Craigslist that have farm stuff. May be able to find a used one cheap. Just make sure it has been cleaned after use or it will be rusted out. I clean mine after use and it's over 15 years old. I also keep it either under a shed or covered. As far as the changing it out I made a small dolly it sits on that one man can roll around into place. I don't have help all the time.

I have one of the 500 pound capacity ones from Tractor Supply.
They are Cosmo brand and you can get parts directly from the mfg.
Get the metal hopper and make sure to wash out the fertilizer or it will rust to the ground quickly.
The plastic hoppers are OK if you can keep it inside a barn out of the sun.
They are UV treated but after 3 years outside, they become brittle.

It's a 3 point and I can move it around pretty easily by myself and I'm 65.

We have used pull behind units in the past and just keeping tires on the thing AND air in the tires was way more hassle than simply changing implements.
It seemed to always have low or flat tires when I went to use it.
