I found this guy making his rounds on a new lease I just signed. What in your opinion is the best round to take him and have him stuffed at the taxidermist? I have a 17 hmr, a 204 ruger, and a 22-250......
Don't look for a wish bone where a back bone is needed!!

My vote is the 204. I have seen too many varmints run off after being hit with the 17. Im not wanting to start any arguments about how great the 17 is, just stating from my experience. I have used the 204 on coyotes, silver fox in Kodiak, and bobcats and they have all dropped in their tracks.

I would use a 22-250 and put the exit hole on the wall side don't cheap out on the taxidermist

Of those listed 204 or 22-250 unless you can be real close. My favorite bobcat and coyote round is a 47 but that one being the 17 Remington

The bullet is more important than the caliber. You don't want to mess up the hide with too much bullet expansion. Its not that difficult to kill one with a well placed bullet.

.22 Mag is hard to beat if you want minimal pelt damage. I have killed a truck load of them with a .22 long rifle but that was when my dogs had them in a tree. Adios, Gary

My Out of the three, .204. Like Kmon, my .17 Remington is hard to beat for dumping it's energy internally.

Hope you're going to wait for a nice coat next winter, pick a good taxi. Google bad bobcat mounts and be prepared.

.17HMR, mine is dialed in at 100 yds to where you can cover a 5 shot group with a quarter.

Were it me an I was planning on mounting it a carefully placed 17 HMR would be my choice. 17 WSM would be better.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

Of those choices the 204 with proper bullet has highest percentage of getting you what you want. No1 dead bobcat No2. Minimal pelt damage
I would not attempt to shoot it until next December so the fur is decent.

If you have a shotgun I'd go that route. #4 buckshot.
If you don't have a shotgun I'd go with 22-250 right to the shoulder or if facing you, right in the chest.

From personal experience, but not on a lot of bobcats, the 60 gr Partition didn’t make a big exit hole. Another bullet I use, but only on coyotes, is the Nosler 40 gr Ballistic Tip. Exits haven’t been large, but on a smaller varmint like a bobcat, I don’t know what would happen.

Have shot several over the years, with everything from a bow to a .300 Win Mag.
I do not recommend going the Win Mag route if you want to mount it...
Of the three mentioned, I would go with the .17 HMR and good bullets.
