I see that the proposal to allow a uniform deer season in Texas did not happen. Reason?? Quail Hunters!! So the vast majority of hunters in Texas (deer) do not get to have an additional 2 weeks added to their season because of great plains quail hunters?? Some changes need to be made in the decision makers...
Old age and treachery beats youth and stupid every time!

That's BS if that is the reason. In counties with huntable quail pops how many deer hunters would have been impacted by allowing quail hunters to start early like normal? Hardly any as it was an extension and most are done hunting anyway. Let quail hunters still hunt after Dec as they do now. Most deer hunter hunt rut only anyway and doe and late spike season has been around a while with no issues. It would have been a nice to have. https://tylerpaper.com/texas_all_outdoor...10a67f096a.htmlHere's who makes all the decisions: https://tpwd.texas.gov/about/tpw-commissioners

You would starve if you depended on eating quail taken from where I hunt. I've probably seen one quail in the last four years.

Sounds about right, 90% supported it and they went and satisfied the 10%. What a joke.

I would think that deer hunters stimulate the economy considerably more than quail hunters do. Of course, a logical reason should never be considered in making any type of decision.

Here's a thought!....Extend the season for all counties with the exception of those great plains quail counties! I guess TPWD never heard of the word "compromise!"

If there aren't any more quail this coming year to hunt than there were this past year, then quail hunters and deer hunters will both be playing dominoes at the drug store on the weekends after deer season. Logical decision would have been alternate weeks from the end of regular deer season, or alternate years between making the deer season longer and the next year would be strictly quail hunting. When was the last real change for deer limits, seasons, etc.? With the whitetail population exploding, the "threat" of CWD and all of that, it looks like TP&W would want to remove more deer to control the "threat". Their decision makes no sense except that the higher ups in the TP&W dept. are quail hunters and not deer hunters.

I hunt both deer and quail. My love is quail hunting so you can probably guess what I said when I took their survey.
But serious question, what did the deer hunters want to gain by extending the season? From a pure mgmt standpoint it seemed like a bad idea to me. Deer can start losing their antlers pretty early so many hunters wouldn't know if they are shooting a doe or a 2yo buck that would grow to be a monster.
My deer lease is MLD and the rancher cuts us off after deer season anyway.

Now if you want a more serious fight on your hands, ignore the end of the season date and propose a single season for all methods.

There are pros and cons to extending the season, and I can see why there are people who would oppose it just as much as those who are for it. but if there was 90% in favor that says a lot, so I would suspect the matter won't die quickly.

Extended season will not effect a lot of the state any differently. South Texas has the longer season anyway and other areas gain 2 weeks extra with ML season. Longer season does not increase the amount of tags on your license nor guarantee you will kill a deer that late. Most areas that would gain the 2 weeks will be hunting post rut bucks that are going to be already more nocturnal due to hunting pressure from the previous months of the seasons. I have 2 weeks of ML season on the end and have never killed or seen any buck I wanted to shoot in January in the past 6 seasons. Even older lower end bucks disappear in late season here. They show up as usual by the next season. They could add 6 weeks to the season and not effect the hunting for some areas.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?
