Has the value of older Remington rifles taken a hit after the bankruptcy, or have they held their value?
Specifically talking about a Rem 700PSS. 308 with 26" barrel. Built around 99-00 and had 100ish rounds fired. Spent years in the safe.

What value would you put on a rifle like this?

I hope it is ok to ask, I haven't come up with much on internet searches.

It’ll be the same. Remington isn’t shutting down. The bankruptcy was just to restructure stuff financially.

Remington rifle values took a hit due to bad quality. The bankruptcy isn't going to hurt value. If anything, if Remington was actually shutting down, the value would increase.

Look on Gun Broker and get an average price.

As others have said, if it's still a good shooting, good cycling rifle, value has not been hurt. Look at Savage 99's, and Savage 24's. Savage is still in business, but they halted production on both of those models over 30 years ago (I think). I would imagine parts can be hard to come by, but both of those firearms fetch a high price.

That used to be a $700-800 rifle, sure you would get close. What hurt the PSS value was the production of the cheaper SPS-T and the. The 5r both shooting 1/2” groups consistently.

One of the best rifles Remington ever made. It started the long range (sniper) rifle craze

True, this gun doesn't have the newest craze 5r rifling, it also doesn't have a J lock, or an X mark trigger, or any QC issues like Rem has had lately. And it shoots 1/2" or better with most good ammo.

Ya'll answered my question.

The regular trigger had more issues than the xmark

Any Remington production trigger needs to be thrown in the scrap bin, and replaced with a Timney.

Jeez, the original Remmy 700 trigger was great when tuned by a Master, Speedy Gonzalez.

Agree 100% - I assumed he was talking about a pre-Freedom gun. I won't buy any Remington (used or new) because of what they've done. But there are people who will and the more recent ones are definitely worth less. But it has much more to do with bad quality than financial issues.

Then when the Jewel gets dirty, and quits working, go back to one of the other two.

Not everyone has a master smith standing at their house waiting to adjust a trigger for them. Thus, one of the replacements that the end user can set poundage as he sees fit, with the most basic of tools.

Remington values will not take a hit from this. They have a name and a history that will always ensure their 700 series rifles have value. Personally I have no use for a Remington for many reasons but it’s like a .270 or a Chevy to me, they’re ok if you want middle of the road consistent performance.
