I recently came across an opportunity to get a lease around Camanche Tx. Does anyone hunt around that area. I usually hunt public land and I'm new to the hunting in Texas so I wouldn't know what areas are best? Thanks for the help!

Did you mean Comanche? I live near Comanche, Texas. If so, where are you looking to hunt?

I hunted in the Comanche area years ago, turkey hunting was great and the deer hunting was pretty good, didn't see any giant bucks but there were decent bucks there and filled my tags. Lots of rattlesnakes on that lease....

Seems just about any piece of private ground is better than public (with the exception of some of the draws).

Yes I did sorry, I posted it off of my phone and it auto corrected it. I don't know exactly what area I will be going out to the property on Friday. I'm sure there will be a good amount of animals there since the land I'll be hunting has a walnut farm on it. I'm more interested in hog hunting, I love the meat. I'll definitely take a deer here and there but it's a very reasonable price since I'm mostly interested in hogs. Jethro71 I will post where it is exactly once I'm out here. I'll be following the owner out there from Arlington. Thanks all! Happy hunting!

I actually live north of Comanche and west of DeLeon. There are a boatload of hogs, quite a few turkeys and a good amount of deer. My lease is north of Cisco, but the area around me and the Comanche area have good game numbers. Let me know.

From a friend that owns 1000 acres in Commanche, the area's hunting is very much driven by the acorn crop that season. Lots of acorns, few deer going to feeders and vice versa. Lots of oaks down that way. That said, they have taken some nice, heavy horned deer over the years..

I'm not expecting to have to use a feeder, the owner has a couple 100 acres of walnut trees. I'm going to see if bait holes work since I will most likely be hunting hogs but I'm not counting on it since they have food everywhere!

Didn't get to go last Friday. Owner had an emergency, but should be going soon, thanks for all your comments.

I have a Comanche address and live by Lake Proctor. In my opinion, Comanche County can be very hit and miss depending on where the property is in the county. Some are lucky to see anything at all and others consistently harvest 140-150” deer. I have hog hunted over most of the county and deer hunt just south of here in Mills county near Priddy. If I can be of any assistance, send me a PM.

I hope the “land owner” isn’t a guy named Scott...

The Sidney area is beautiful. All my folks are from where Comanche, Brown, and Eastland county all join.

Some beautiful country around Comanche. Used to make the drive on highway 67, from near Presidio to Texarkana. That is the perfect way to see Texas at it's finest. From near the arid Big Bend area to the eastern edge of Texas.

leased a place SW of Deleon for one season....couldn't get out of there fast enough. saw 1 deer the entire season and if anything sat on the ground more than 5 seconds it was covered in fire ants. Yet, 3 miles down the road they were covered in deer....hit & miss

Thanks everyone for the replies! TxAggie, the guys name is Jose. He used to be one of my neighbors. He offered it to me so just wondering what it was like. He is still out of town but when he returns I’ll be heading out there with him to check out the property. I will definitely post if I see anything. Schpanky that is unfortunate how close they can be and not make it to where you where! Hope you found a good spot!

I hunt 4 miles east of Gustine in between Comanche and Hamilton, 100 acres mostly open. Not really much hunting pressure, EXCEPT @%$!ing poachers I saw hunting my neighbors fenceline twice! Saw 1 buck that would make any hunter in any part of the state happy, guestimate from this forum 150+, saw it once in daylight but it stayed on the wrong side of the fence, plus too far to shoot...rest are healthy mix of bucks and does. If your wanting to fill your tag or freezer, you will be fine. If you are looking for a trophy, you might get lucky because they are there and it could happen, or you might be like me...saying you saw a "huge buck but didnt get a shot". Turkeys are there. I saw small group of pigs last year, but my property is surrounded by good fencing and pigs really have to work to get to my property.

I have hunted Comanche Co. near Carlton for the last 5 years .. I cannot complain .. Lots of deer but you will be competing with acorns .. If it’s a good acorn crop the deer will be thin. This is my Comanche Co . Buck from this season ..Good luck!
