Naturally when I got my 9mm I got dies and whatever else I need to load for it. Finally got around to loading the first round last night... wow. if you pick up a 9mm case there is no room left, fingers stick out on all sides lol, they sink so low in my loading block its hell getting them out, stepped out on the back porch and test fired a few to make sure it fired and fed and all was good until it came time to find the brass... I know I was warned of this, hopefully I can just keep brass loss to a minimum at a range on black top lol. I did dig a 115 grain xtp out of the ground it mushroomed nicely.

9mm brass is too plentiful cheap to go find them on the ground, IMO.

We will see. I have never liked the feel of shooting automatics. I don't like the feeling in a auto shotgun when the action cycles, as of yet I don't really care for it with the glock, but I will give it some time to grow on me. I may see a small frame hammerless revolver in my future... and that will serve double duty on finding the brass.

Unless I'm at a public range that prohibits it, I always take a cheap, blue tarp with me and spread it out on the ground to my RH side. I'll do a couple of test firings from the stations I want to work with to see the trajectory of the spent cases and reposition the tarp accordingly. It sure doesn't catch all the brass, but I get about a 90% recovery rate. At the end of the session, I'll carefully pull the tarp corners together and then dump the contents into a box and head to the tumbler to begin the cycle again.

I started out loading 9mm years ago on a single stage press. Its a beating due to the size. Buddy of mine dad has a Dillan progressive. Watching him kick out 250 rounds in the same time it take me to prep and prime my brass is nauseating. A progressive press is in my future. As far as brass goes I pick up what I can find after shooting and don't worry about what I loose.
$100 would by me a life time of 9mm brass.

I agree that if you're shooting much pistol ammo, you really need to consider a progressive. Our local gun club has a Dillon 450 that I can borrow and it will spit out a ton of ammo in no time compared to my rock chucker.

May have to give the tarp trick a try.

Most of the ranges I frequent allow you to pick up whatever brass is on the ground so I can probably make up for what I don't find from my neighbor who doesn't give a rats azz about his 9mm brass.

For now single stage is fast enough for me, just going to have to get used to the small bullet size.... I thought 223 was a pain when I started loading that, its got nothing on 9mm.

You sure wouldn't like .380 ACP with 90 gr. bullets. I have large hands and it's kinda like threading a needle at arm's length with welding gloves. I enjoy loading for everything I shoot using a single stage press. For me it is relaxing and theraputic.

Man, after cranking out about 500-600 rounds an hour of 40 cal or 10mm Auto, I'd go nuts loading a handgun round on a single stage.

That would drive me nuts also, but like Bar-D, I enjoy the process of reloading, I find it relaxing and fun and I wont be loading near that many in a setting.
