Not sure why you would carry a pocket knife like that, but whatever floats your boat. I do have a Buck 0119 that I lost the sheath on long time ago. Recently ordered a horizontal sheath for it and like it a lot. Knife doesn't jab my lovehandles or anything else now when I am sitting down.
Cattlemen and ranchers carry their knives that way up here, I think it makes for easier unsheathing in case of a rope emergency, i.e. they need to cut a rope quick. Lots of guys still use horses to check cattle where atvs can not navigate the rough terrain. Also makes for more comfortable carry like chalet stated above.
I quit with folding knives after one folded on my finger while killing something. Horizontal carry allows you to have a full size fixed blade on you without it being in the way. I've carried a 3" blade up front for years.
