I picked up a beautiful Sako M78 Hornet a few months back. The rifle shoots like a champ. I worked up a load for it tonight. It likes 40gr Sierra Varminters over 12.5gr lLil Gun. I loaded up 60 rounds and it took me forever. My big hands and the small cases and bullets don’t jive. I dropped a bullet at lest three times for every load.
Any tricks for loading this round?

I agree, have a couple of K Hornets. The only thing I've found worse is the 17 Fireball.

The Hornet can be a challenge but sure is a lot of fun. Not sure what to say for not dropping bullets. Which bullets are you using the typical 45gr Hornet bullet? I seem to drop fewer when loading 40gr Nosler BT bullets

Okie, the 17 Remington is right there with the 17 Hornet. Those short 60gr bullets for the 25-20 are a pain as well

Scalebuster, try waiting to place the bullet on the case till after you have it in the shell holder.

The RCBS Competition die with the micrometer. It has a hole in the side you place the bullet in and press. I may still have mine from my Hornet days. That Hornet brass just didn't cut it for me.
Cast I have a short attention spa

Funny, as I have been loading somen hornets just.last night. I neck size with a lee die then chamfer inside and.out. then I take the expander plug out of a.universal expander die and push it in and give it a twist. Bullets will balance nicely

I was reloading new Win brass. That was my problem. After resizing it’s not near as difficult. I still don’t enjoy reloading for this cartridge. Groups tightened up as well.

One trick to get a bullet to stand on a case is to put some sticky wax on the base of the bullet. I have a globe of bullet wax sitting on my bench for this specific purpose. I don't load the Hornet but I do load a 218 Bee. If they Hornet bugs you, how about a 25 Auto?
