Just wondering if any on here actually really hunt in Fannin county, my question is How bad is hunting going to really be , now that this new lake is coming? does this affect the future of hunting around the grasslands? Just wondering if there are any thoughts!!!

I was thinking about doing a valet parking thing at each of the sign staions at the Grasslands and a Uber franchise from Honey Grove to Ladonia , with mebbe a fast casual dining experience a little later there'll be that much traffic, IMO Think Frisco, in camo, at the lake....go north to Oklahoma OMG I can't believe I said that. Just go buy land and wait 5 years for the west & east coast crowd looking for a lake place with toooo much money to spend ... Ron

I personally think it will help hunting in the area. I would think it would help hold birds in the area.

So, I'll probably butcher this all up, but I recall reading somewhere that when they build a new reservoir, the entity building it has to do land mitigation to off set what they are about to put under water. And if you have a subscription to OnXMaps, you can see where the North Texas Municipal Water District has purchased land North of Caddo Grasslands that will not be under water. Hopefully they will turn that over to the state and it will become available for public hunting! I've submitted the question to our local water expert in DFW. http://ketr.org/post/lower-bois-darc-reservoir-plan-includes-mitigation-lands-bridge-infrastructure

North Texas Municipal Water District working to Create Public Access Land http://fannincountyleader.info/north-tex...and-p2314-1.htm As for the lower Caddo Grasslands. It looks like the new Lake Ralph Hall will put most of that one under water. Land that my wife's family owned just down the river from the Ladonia Grasslands was signed over to the Corps just last week.

If I had to choose between TPWD and the US Forest service to manage a new public hunting property I'd go with TPWD. I think they would do a little better job at it.Manage that new property similar to Pat Mayse WMA,they're in the same area. A long bow season on the AHP program and maybe 100 drawn rifle permits.

OSBWMA was at one time one of the most saught after leases in the county, it was out of my price range. Not sure all details. They had maps drawn up, making it into a lake. It got turned down & turned into WMA & opened for public hunting. Gave up leasing & started hunting WMA's. Didn't do draw hunts, had place set up S of house down by creek. The $48.00 permit for year round hunting that is charged ta use WMA, No way comes close ta paying for up keep of these WMA's, draw-hunts of individual areas is small portion. When Sabine floods, everything moves ta privet high ground. Smith county is a 4-deer county. Privet land owners will benifet, & so would those who fish. & as former water meter reader during water shortage, Thinking it might be looked into for next lake possability.
