So I've decided I'm good on guns for the time being and want to upgrade in other areas. Focusing first on chrony since I Recently decided I want to go to matches again and want to upgrade the chrony. It's an oldie. So I seeking chrony suggestions. I hear the magnetospeed v3 or sporter are good. Any others y'all would recommend?

I've got a couple of the Chrony models, they work fine. Buddy has the Lab Radar chronograph. It is very sweet, you can set it to read at various distances down range.

I would probably go with a Labradar now, but I have a Magneto and its great. The Labradar has advantages, mainly that its not attached to the barrel. Ive never found this to be a big hindrance for my needs, but it would be nice to avoid.

I like the Magnetospeed. Tried mine out on a 338 Lapua the other day and it worked like a charm.

Labradar first. Caldwell second. I like the interface with a smartphone and the ability to shoot and the email data to my home computer from the field. You can operate the chrono remote from the bench with the smart phone. This is the display you see. You can email or text it by tapping share or you can just save it. All the notes I would make in a log book are done. Hit start shoot. Hit save. Hit start for next group. It's a nice clean format.

I understand the convenience of the magneto speed but I am not a fan of tuning a load with something foreign on the barrel. I want my barrel floated with nothing touching it.

Old school here. I like my Oehler 35P. I'm like Smokey Bear in that I like to chrono during load development and don't want something hanging off the muzzle during firing. I know some rifles don't seem to be affected by it much, but that's just not true of all rifles. Maybe one day when the Labradar gets cheaper I'll go that route...I think they'll improve it some over the next few years anyway.

LabRadar will be the next chronograph I purchase. It and Magnetospewd give data that I trust, but I do not want something attached to my barrel.

That's what I was wondering about the magnetospeed. The set seems very convenient but I don't like it attaching to the barrel. I would like the labradar but I don't know if I want to spend that kind of money. I know its supposed to be great but is it worth the juice?

I've never experienced grouping problems from a v3 only poi shift. This is everything from a m24 contour to a featherweight barrel.

The one I currently have is a pact but it's like 10yrs old. It's been accurate but the setup is kinda a pita. Anyone use pact?

Yes. It's a before and after product.

I own a Laradar and I think it worth the money. Easy to setup, I don't have to go down range and setup or mess around with screens walking back and forth to get it lined up. I had a Shooting Chrony and they work most of the time but are too much hassle. I accidentally shot the sky screens on 2 occasions, don't have to worry about that anymore.

The one problem I've had with Labradar is try to measure pistol velocity, I couldn't get it to read pistol rounds consistently. I only tried for a few minutes and probably had the settings wrong.

Jorge, if what you have is accurate for you, I would stick with it till you decide to pony up for the Labradar. A lot of good shooters have been very successful using an optical style chronograph for quite some time.

River Rider, I used to have an oehler, till it got shot.....DRT! Honestly it's the most highly regarded optical chrono out there. If I didn't have a son currently attending college, it was the perfect excuse to step up to the labradar.

The one big plus I see to the labradar is not just set up and multi distance it is not having to worry about the sun. If I'm wrong someone let me know because this labradar is getting more and more tempting.

Yesterday Judd has his LabRadar on a bench measuring ladder test shots. I was prone, next to him, on the deck. When he was done, he handed it to me, and I set it up near the end of the suppressor on the rifle I was shooting. I re-armed it, and shot 3. It gave velocities on every shot, ES, and SD immediately. Light or shade does not matter. It is mighty handy!

Another vote for the Labradar.. sets up in a couple seconds, don't have to switch anything between guns, puts all your data into excel files. I love it.. however I have the luxury of shooting off my back porch. I hear it can be a pain if you are at a range and the guy next to you has a big gun with muzzle brake.

If you shoot suppressed, or 22lr, you may have to get the microphone that attaches to it. It's a learning curve as to where to place the muzzle, but works fine once you figure it out.

I tested 10 different loads yesterday. All I had to do was start a new series for each load. Didn't have to mess with any data till I was done.

That's a good price for Caldwell while I save up for a lab. Anyone run the sporter version of the magneto?

Magneto speed is really handy at a public range because it's easy to set up and you aren't rushing to set it up between cease fires.
