New information, updates, and listing of processors. Share Your Harvest If you'e running out of room in your freezer, consider supporting Hunters for the Hungry and donating your deer to a participating meat processor to help feed needy families. You can also make a donation when you purchase your hunting license. Donations help cover the costs of processing the donated venison, and make it possible for more Texas families in need to enjoy a quality protein. Last year, Texas license buyers generously donated more than $106,000 and Texas hunters gave an astounding 54,000 lbs. of venison – thank you! https://www.feedingtexas.org/get-involve...rce=govdeliveryhttps://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...t#gid=777320987

Great cause. Hall's in Coleman doesn't charge anything if you've already gutted the deer.

Can anyone here say for sure, that I could KNOW that the meat I paid to process and donated to HH actually got to the needy and didn't end up in the sausage bin of the processor so he could sell a few pounds here and there?
I hate to be the one casting a doubt and I don't have any particular processor in mind, I'm just saying, what keeps the processor from not turning it in? Is there a part of the system that keeps them accountable for the meat that is left with them?

Interesting how all these comments the processor should do it for free. Bet you won’t find another suitable way to process donated game to give away and then you think processor should be on the hook to receive, process, package and store every animal that comes in. Maybe if it was 4 deer a year, but I be the number is far greater for a lot of them. They are for profit companies offering a service at a reduced cost, that IS their donation and without them otherwise likely would not be available. Maybe y’all need to find a cheaper solution and post it on up. $.25 a # is pretty cheap but maybe you can get the cost down.

I hate to be the one casting a doubt and I don't have any particular processor in mind, I'm just saying, what keeps the processor from not turning it in? Is there a part of the system that keeps them accountable for the meat that is left with them? Selling a few pounds " here or there", is illegal. Most processors aren't going to risk major fines to fudge their books. Processors are checked regularly by the GW.... Kenny Fred's deer processing in Bluff Dale is who we use. Best I've found. I've used a lot. Their smoked jalapeno cheese sausage is out of this world.

As of a couple years ago Kubys in Dallas took donated deer or pig. All or part, (if you only wanted, say, 20 lbs. of sausage) though they were not part of this program they did send it to a local food bank. No charge to the hunter.

Sounds like a great cause, wish there were participating processors in Bosque and Coryell Counties where I hunt. Prob be able to donate 1 or 2 a year.

I think Halls is doing what all processors should do. As hunters we donate the deer in good faith after spending what is quite a bit per pound in dollars and cents. Maybe the processors should be a bit more generous.

By paying the nominal fee to the processor you are essentially paying them for their time only without profit. The program would not work if all of the processors were asked to work for free. So, yes, you've spent money on the tag and the gas and the corn but come on. All of us spend THOUSANDS of dollars a year when you add up all of the receipts. What's another $35 if the result is 50 pounds of meat that feeds people?

Too bad the three I called are no longer working numbers. Throckmorton, Breckinridge and Pilot Point. Anyone on here from Throckmorton know if Escalon’s is still open? New number?
If you're coming for mine, you better have yours!

Tried a new processor this year. Wildwood Game in Lockhart. Small independent guy, spoke with him at length before taking a deer to him.
Had some jalepeno cheese sausage and smoked sticks made.. great stuff
