I have a couple of bolt action 30-30s
Just wondering if anyone has worked up any loads and could make recommendations on bullets and powders?

Go to speer-ammo.com and check out there rifle data, there are several loads that get 2500 fps with 150 grain bullets in leverguns. You could run a pointed 150 at that speed and be in good shape.

Nosler also has some loads listed. They will work fine, as long as they work in your barrel twist.

Hornady makes a monoflex tip specifically for tube magazine 30-30s.

I always wanted to try the 125 grain nosler ballistic tips. I would think the Barnes bullet that they make for the blackout would work.

About 30 years ago I was loading 168 grain Sierra Match Kings for my 30-30. Used book data for similar weight.
I single loaded into the chamber to avoid the pointy bullets in tube magazine. I seated bullets as far out as practical to get closer to lands.
Groups were much smaller than standard 30-30 Flatnose bullets. Three shot group was better than 5 likely due to barrel heating and magazine not heating. But guys like us only need one shot.

Hornady FTX 160gr 30-30 bullet ahead of LE powder or H4895 - great range (200), accuracy, & terminal performance (its bonded core). Multixtube safe. No downside.

( make SURE you don’t get the FTX 30cal 160gr for 308 - cannulure not in right spot for 30-30 but rest same)

Finally got some time this evening. Found a box of spire.soft point 125 gr They were in a Hornady box but pretty sure they are not Hornady.
I seated them about .005 off the rifling and that just put all the canelure inside the case.

I would like to hear what rifles you have Blanco! I have a nice Savage 340 that I turned into a scout rifle.

I shoot a 170-grain cast bullet.

Thanks, RR! The rifle is very accurate. It can keep 5 shots inside 1 MOA at 100 yards. Velocity is 2300 FPS, here is the load.

I'm a lucky guy, I own a lot of firearms. That said, eventually, this will probably be the last one remaining one day. It totally fits the hunting I do on my ranch. The 340 is what I started with 50 plus years ago.

That's right, we did communicate! Good luck with your shooting and looking forward to your report. I've been going back through powders on mine, just messing with stuff because I want to shoot the rifle, but sticking to one of my three cast bullets for the 30-30 Win.

RD you were the inspiration for my 2nd 340. I used a weaver mount and a 3x Weaver

Another rifle that I like chambered in 30-30 Win is the Savage 170, a pump gun.

It was also offered in 35 Rem, have one of those as well.
