I would like to start a small food on my place. I have NO equipment (Tractor, lawn mower, atv., etc). I do have a seed spreader. Do any of the throw and grow style seed spreads work well. Do I have to clear out with a weed killer or burn before I put it down.

Suggestions?

I've never used the throw n grows but have read on them where they say it's best to prepare soil. The seeds need to make good contact with the soil however you can accomplish that. What type of soil are you wanting to try them in?

I planted the 7card stud 2016-17 season at my house in good sandy loam. I sprayed roundup to kill everything, then mowed it all down, them spread horse manure and tilled it all in. I had turnips so tall the yearling deer couldn't be seen unless the had their head up. Never seen a deer eating the turnips either. Didn't plant anything this past season but I'm gonna plant oats and winter peas this year at the house and hopefully at my lease.

Not even a push mower? A non self propelled push mower can be had on Craigslist for $50 or less. Spray the area with Roundup. About two weeks later mow it down. Put a thatching blade on the mower and go over it one more time. Throw the seed, go over it with a rake, and pray for rain.
