Long story, but the short version is that I've been working on a 20" Confederate style short sword. Basically, a 20" bladed D guard bowie knife. The blade is forged from a Dodge leaf spring. Normalized x3, then quenched by eye/magnet in Duratherm G. Have it in the temper oven now, clamped to deal with a little warpage.

Is it 20" overall or 20" blade length?

20 inch blade. OAL will be 25" or so.

Fit up the D guard tonight. Likely handle tomorrow.

Laid it out on paper first. Mild steel bar stock and dykem after that.

It was a fun project, nearly twice as long as my previous biggest knife. First time I've done a D guard as well, and I'm sure there will be more of them.
