Anyone have any luck killing coyotes with a shotgun only using no 2 shot?
And if so, what choke did you use?

Yes, indeed, I have. I've used #2 and buck shot out of a XX Turkey choke, high brass, 3 inch shells. (I've killed 'em real dead out to about 45 yards with the XX/Buckshot combo) Be sure to get a bunch of different shotgun shell manufacturers to try out through your shottie. Patterning is really important and the difference you'll see from one choke to another, and one shotgun shell to another will surprise you. I'd suggest that you try several different chokes if your shotgun allows you to do so. HeviShot's "Dead Coyote" is the best I've ever used, but it is very expensive. Here's their advertising material, and I do have to agree with them:
With these Hevi ShotŪ T-shot loads, you can be deadly at ranges you never thought possible with a 12 gauge. If you're a waterfowler, you already know the benefits of Hevi ShotŪ -- it's 10% heavier than lead, 54% denser than steel and produces superior downrange pattern densities that make cleaner kills at greater distances. But until now, it wasn't available in a shot size larger than BB, so you weren't able to experience its true potential. The 3" load pounds out 50 pellets at 1,350 feet-per-second. Each pellet is molded perfectly round to minimize the effects of air resistance and keep your pattern together longer. Simply put, Hevi ShotŪ T shot will deliver a lethal payload at the very extreme of shotgun ranges. Try it and you'll be a believer. 10 shells per

Other than steel, I've not been able to find #2 lead.
I'll take a look at Hevi-shot

MidwayUSA had some. I got a case of 20 ga 1 1/4oz #2 lead last year for jackrabbits. It is a thumper.

Let me guess. Public land with rules requiring #2 shot or smaller? I have ran into that problem before. If possible and if you can figure it out, you would want to find a load that has the most dense shot you can find. For example the hevi shot duck loads at least at one time was only something like 9.8 gms/cc but their goose loads used a more dense pellet. A hevi goose #2 load would have been a better choice than the hevi duck load back then. I have no idea what environ is marketing now and they usually will not be up front about it anyway. I have killed a few coyotes with 10 ga reloads using 12 gms/cc #2 hevi shot through a full choke and can tell you it is deadly on them. Some of the Turkey loads are real thumpers at 13 gms/cc density. They are loaded slow, but for coyotes that may not matter if you can find one in #2 or #3. Too, make sure you note the wording for whatever public hunting area your hunting. Sometimes they read "using non toxic shot OR #2(or #3 or #4) and smaller". Meaning through a loophole in the wording meant mostly for goose hunters, a non toxic dead coyote load might be legal.
