I hate Barnes. Never saw what everyone saw in them. I will defend them here and say that any manufacturer is going to have a dud every now and then though. Its easy to wonder "what if" but "if" ever happens then maybe its just your time to go. If you had multiple failures then I would be concerned but just one dud neither points to a ammo problem or gun problem.
Several years ago I had a 350 Rem Mag round not fire when I was aiming at a hog. It could have cost me the hog when he heard the click but he came back. I didn't like it but with the exception of rimfire this was the first and still the only time I have ever had a dud.

Use whatever LE and FBI is using. Nobody uses Barnes....BTW did you measure the 25Y with a rangefinder like you promised you would?

How many times have you chambered that round? Once, loaded mag, inserted into gun, dropped slide, Press check and knock it with the back of my hand to make sure it was in battery. Why are you doing a press check after dropping the slide? I really hate press checking it just leads to problems. Semi auto's are meant to slam back and forth with some force. Hitting the back of the slide with your hand is no where near the force of the slide slamming under the spring power. Your XD has a loaded chamber indicator, even guns that don't have one, if they have an external extractor, you can just look at the extractor and know there is a round loaded. I really think your gun handling is responsible for a light primer strike. Also did you try to fire it a 2nd time?

I have had a dud before, but I never worried about it. I have thought about putting a snap cap in magazines randomly to practice. Give me the last four of that Cabela's CC number at the top of the ledger and I will order a couple.

read the whole thread but yes, I did try it again in the next magazine, "click" as far as "press check" I'm not trying to be like the tacticool guys on TV who do it before every IDPA run but its just another measure to make sure it's "really there"
having a "dud" is bad but not the end of the world, but a dud in your chamber as your "First", maybe, only shot in a defensive situation, well that ran a chill up my spine.
The only other "DUD" I can remember was with a Winchester 20ga AA in 1970 something. I mailed to Winchester they sent me a box of 25.
Barnes said they would send me some new ammo...............practice ammo for sure.
We'll see

We'll see Press check or not is an argument for a different thread.  If you tried it a 2nd time and still no bang it is definitely the ammo fault not yours. Barnes are good people, they will send you at least another box, if not 2.
