So last night I was sitting in the box waiting on a hog. I had just replaced the batteries in the Photon XT 4.6 before I went out. It was cold- 31 degrees. I had mounted a new IR illuminator to try out, so I turned on the Photon - not the built in IR- just the sight- and the battery showed 3/4. I scanned for about 30 minutes and the battery indicator was dropping the whole time. Then the LED turns to red, and the battery shows 0. About that time, of course, a hog steps out. I shot him, and the sight turns off. Turn it back on, he’s down. I have some rechargeable lithium AAs on the way, these were just Alkaline Energizers. Last week, when it wasn’t near as cold, some Duracell’s lasted 3 hours.
So what’s the recommendation for the XT? Reading up it looks like there’s really no easy way to add external power.
What’s the normal time people are getting from rechargeable lithium’s?
May be time to upgrade to an RT....

I use the eneloop pro batteries and usually go through two sets in a night of hunting. I usually hunt from sun down until morning.
Not quite sure how long they last with constant power on but I figure at least 4 hours. I use my ir laser too.
Eneloop will be tough to beat if even possible

I’ll give them a try. Thanks for the help.

I have gotten in the habit of turning mine off and on a lot. On, look around for a bit then turn it back off until I decide I need to look around again. Still carry a handful of extra AA's in the back pack because they do like to go dead at the damnedest times. Straight up duracells or energizers is what I usually have.

I carry extra batteries with me, but Duracell and Energizer both work well for me.

I've tried several different brands of batteries and I can't tell a difference in battery life. If I leave my Photon on with the internal illuminator on low, I'll get about 2 hours of use with whatever battery I'm using. If I keep the scope on and use an external illuminator, I'll get around 3 hours of continuous use. I've learned to keep a 12 pack of batteries in my hunting bag and I just change them accordingly. It's just part of my night hunting process now.

Thanks. I think I'm about pushing the limit on the 4.6x- this one was about 140 yards- the new IR illuminator helps a bit- and the rechargeable lithium batteries came in Saturday while I was at the ranch.

I've had good success with Kentli batteries in the photon. The nice thing is you can keep it off until you see something unless you're using it to scan because it's instant on.

I use rechargable 2300mAh batteries. I have 12 of them and rotate them at about 50% charge

Rechargeable batteries 2 sets. And I only scan then turn off. Half the time I scan is with my seek thermal. No heat signature then no need to scan with photon
