OK I give ..has anybody got any performance info on the newest latest greatest from the guys in Nebraska. Nowhere on their Home Page could I find anything and the few powder guys I looked at are not posting any updates yet...so pray tell just exactly WHY is the PRC the new best 6.5 thingy since sliced bread???

In surfin' the web this afternoon , the 260 looks to be dead as yesterdays lefover fish IMO for no good reason, but the venerable old Swede seems to be chuggin' along with the same dedicated euro centric support system fan base, about like the other 6.5 variations. Some folks talkin' it's 'bout time for a starter priced factory chambered rifle in 6.5x284 but it takes a long action to make the juices flow & not everbody gets sweaty palms over a Tikka or a Short Action anything else in that 'un, just sayin'.

147 ELD-M @ 2910 is By Gawd salty!

The only question I have is recoil. Recoil even with a good brake installed. My bet is, it's not too bad.

Think about your 7 RM with a light load for 150’s. Should be tolerable without a brake and negligible with a good brake.

That should be a nice hunting round.

That's awesome - 147 @ 2900+

I may have to start back-tracking my opinion that they're trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist.

That actually exceeds a 270 with a 150, which is a substantial level of performance.

Hornady really is setting the pace right now.

Just added a load data link.

Handload data has velocities up to 3050. up

Got my copy of Peterson's "Hunting" magazine yesterday and they had a side bar description of the PRC on page 15 in the ongoing Cartridge Corner monthly thread, written by Joseph van Benedikt.

Hornady has partnered with GAP and Gunwerks and the finished product is based on the (done DOA) .300RCM with a .532 Magnum casehead design and a slight .0015 lenghthening to prevent accidental chambering in a .300RCM rifle. Supposedly duplicates the 264 WMg performance but in a Short Magnum format, with the added benefits of less recoil, better barrel life out of Short Action....and the 1st do all Hunting Bullet is a 143gr ELD-X at around 3000fps.

I thought this sentence under the Application paragraph was veery interesting for recoil senistive geezers like me and jumped off the page at me "It could be argued that it's the best possible all-around choice for recoil-sensitive hunters that wish to persue the full gamut of big game acroos the lower 48 states". Makes all the 6.5WSM conversion thoughts/plans a moot issue too...and looks like another HomeRun fill the hole in the caliber lineup deal at first blush. I'll bet Ruger gets to build production rifles 1st too

The Hornady Homepage lists a Match bullet description and a Hunting bullet Application with the same ballistics being touted by the Public Relations Dept...shades of the CM rollout and Marketing Plan...and wonder how long it will take them to be able to ship caliber specific brass, since the RCM case is a tad short by design for safety's sake, IF that makes enough difference to be applicable.

With Hornady's recent history of doing the homework 1st and their expertise in Marketing...I smell a winner that fills a empty spot that other mfg'ers have ignored and they KNOW how to exploit the Match & Hunting Markets for sure. At 1st glance I can see for even a geezer like me who has diddled for years about the +'s & -'s of building a 6.5WSM or buying a 264Wmg ...this will be an easy decision....but I ain't buying a Ruger to get one of these.

My only ?? at this point is when is the 7mm PRC gonna rollout...and take advantage of all the 7SAUM I wanna buy one guys + the 7-08 /7x57 guys who want more punch in a SA shooter & not put up with the 7Rmg's recoil learning curve...then plus steal a chunk of whatever the 280AI/6.5-284 market demand for factory ammo and rifles are too, and have GOOD ACURRATE factory ammo available too.
Wish't I bought Hornady stock long time ago...they are on a Roll big time.

Ron, I bet you're right, they might wildcat their own and make a 7mm PRC.

And I agree, Hornady is leading the pack. Theyre building terrific bullets, as well as terrific ammo. Used to be, Berger was king of the hill for BC, and competitors shot Bergers. Hornady has out-done Berger many times now, and I've seen lots more red tips at matches than I used to. I went with Hornady many years ago because I got them to shoot with less effort than a Berger took. Only have one rifle loaded with a Berger, but the future .223 A.I. 22-250, 6.5 Creedmoor, 7mm-08, 7mm-08 A.I. are all loaded with a Hornady bullet.

It's similar to a modified 6.5 Rem Mag, which I always thought was a great round.

I'll build or buy one soon. I just want to see what factory guns chamber it first. I saw the new Sauer entry, could be the one.

I see the advantage over the 6.5-.284 in barrel life. Great PRS caliber

any excuse to build or buy a new rifle ....right?>

Before you chunk it, let's talk. Given my penchant for old stuff like the 6.5 Swede and 7x57 Mauser I'm shooting, I really like making a home for stuff folks are discarding just to go chase the next new shiny thing. Newest caliber rifle in my rack is a 1925 era JO'C Special, so at least I'm now up to using a little under 100 years old engineering... up

The load data indicates a 26 inch barrel. I would be interested to see 270 load data specific to a 26 inch barrel as well.
