My pocket gun is a Ruger LCP. Because I most often wear cotton pants or shorts, it can acquire a good buildup of lint. Would a lent buildup create any impact on performance, such as making it more likely to jam? Whenever I notice the buildup has gotten very noticeable, I just spray the gun down well with a cleaner/lubricant and add a little Frog Lube to the transition surface where shells are pulled from the magazine and slid into the chamber. I've found the sharp angle that shells must take from the magazine to the chamber in smaller handguns makes this area a hotspot for jams.

Could it cause a problem? I'm sure it could. If you kept lube/grease on an open area, I could see lint sticking to it more. I notice the same thing on my pistol, and I blow off the lint often and keep it free. I also shoot my pistol fairly often at the range, even if it's only a few shots. I carry a Glock, so I don't clean it. They run best dirty and broken in good.

I'm with Chad. Lube the internals, blow off the other spots, shoot frequently.

Shoot it more often and clean it. Once a month is a pretty mild time commitment for an important skill.

My competition G35 in 40 cal has not had the inside of the barrel cleaned in thousands of rounds. I'll take a cloth with cleaner to the moving internal parts, then touch it up with the smallest amount of lube. I drag it through the dust and dirt when shooting prone. I don't want a lot of oil/lube inside the pistol to collect dust and dirt.

I carry a glock 43. It stays pretty linty. Every few months I'll remember to wipe it off. If glocks can function properly when packed with mud, I'm pretty sure a little pocket lint won't hurt it.

Interesting topic. I have yet to clean my glock. The reputation for always feeding and firing is one of the reasons I bought it. Like others have said I would go easy on the grease/oil it will only attract and ball up lent. Ive been planning on using compressed air to blow it off in this instance.

Clean my 2 carry pistols weekly. Usually just a dusting off and lube, function check, load and go.

Any firearm that you are depending upon to save your life or the life of another needs to be kept in perfect working order. My duty pistol is also my off duty carry. It gets cleaned regularly and also function checked. Like everyone else has said, too much lube is not a good thing because it may attract undesirable objects such as dirt and lint.

This for me too. I carry a Kimber Micro 380 (1911) style. I carry it cocked and locked. lint/dust will get between the firing pin and hammer.

So, about once a week I will unload it, q=tip any dust I see. Rack the slide a few times and load it back up.

shoot it once a month (I try), complete field strip and clean, re-lube.

I've been trying a product call "Lock-eze" Its a liquid graphite, goes on wet and dries "dry". Old Benchrest guys use this on there bolt lugs and raceways

Carry gun gets checked / serviced every Saturday morning. It takes all of 10 minutes to disassemble, inspect, clean and run a bore snake down the barrel. Couple drops of Break Free in key spots and I'm done.
