I've had the same one for going on 6 years. It looks like hell, externally, all the controls (except windage) have been tortured, and it's never been sent in for repair. I used it yesterday. It is currently riding on an LR-308 that has not been zero checked in two months, but has been in and out of the truck more times than I can remember. It hit, cold bore at 500, and then backed up to 400 and 300 yards before I went home.

I have a Night Force ATACR F-1 5-25X, but I will always have a job for the SS 5-20X.

sorry for but relative noob in high power scopes, what brand is a SS 5-25HD?

Looks like a Zeiss Conquest 4.5x14 - 40mm
Correct, with the Rapid Z-800 reticle. Works well for hunting, but the crosshair is so thick that it's difficult to make really precise shots. It completely covers a half inch bull at 100 yards. I'll likely replace it with something I can dial.

I'm about to pull the trigger on a Burris XRT II 5-25x...can grab one for about $300 more than the Nikon Black x1000, any thoughts?

In my opinion, glass quality is not on par with some of the other options mentioned - PST Gen 2 or certainly the SWFA HD 5-20. But it does have a reputation for good build quality, good reliability, good turrets, good features, and decent glass. IMHO, I would stick with the 4-20 or 3-15 in the XTR II lineup. But the 5-25 will be a solid scope if you can get a good price on it.
