Since I started my business about 2.5 years ago, I've pretty well quit working out. And since I now spend a lot of time behind the wheel and eating fast food I've managed to get myself to the heaviest I've ever been, 284 pounds. I'm about 6'3".
Starting at 5:30 tomorrow morning, its back to the gym. I'm signed up for a 6 week challenge with the crossfit gym I used to go to. Meal plan and prep is in place. Challenge required a $500 deposit that's refunded or converted to member dues at the end, if you complete and lose 20 pounds over the 6 week period. Basically, I bet myself $500 that I could do this for 6 weeks.
This is going to hurt but I've got to get some weight off!

That's a heck of a deal. Good luck to ya. If you can give us a weekly update. We'll be your accountability partners.

That’s a very good thing, but you must know we are obligated to give you hell about crossfitting.

More power to you! Have you taken the pledge to talk about it constantly? I lost 5 pounds embarassing myself on an elk hunt last October. I've kept it off so far and shed one or two more pounds. Right now I'm enjoying a cup of detox tea...to be followed by a morning cigar. Go get 'em Doc.

That’s a very good thing, but you must know we are obligated to give you hell about crossfitting. No doubt. I haven't taken the oath to talk about it constantly...yet I used to do it regularly but fell off the wagon. The structure of it works for me. If I just go into a gym, I don't get much accomplished. Having a coach and a group setting works for me. I'm not trying to be a body builder or have abs or anything. Just trying to not weigh 300 pounds by Christmas.

Well, that’ll do it. Hopefully you don’t break any bones in the process.

I think you'll drop the 20 pretty easy bud. Just eating right will make it happen quick too. Then add the exercise! Probably 20-30 pounds in those 6 weeks. Good luck and keep us posted!
It's not how you fall, It's how you get up.

20 pounds in 6 weeks is unhealthy. Not if he has a lot of body fat to lose and eats healthy/smart while doing this

At 6’3” and 284, that’s a little on the rapid side. Losing that much, that quick, is going to include some muscle loss along with the fat.

Weight loss always comes from 3 areas simultaneously - lean muscle mass, fat mass, and water mass. I could send you to the store and tell you what to buy to show a 10# scale weight loss by tomorrow morning. Trouble is you would be up all night and dehydrated tomorrow....

Yes, and the idea is to keep the muscle loss to a minimum. Too fast, and that ain’t happening. Weight loss should be fat loss, and it shouldn’t be just about what the scale says.

Keep it up. I did the 530 class for 2 years. I strained some muscles from too much. I did a couple competitions in a row and didn’t pace myself. After I got hurt then we moved and I got out of my routine.
Was out of Crossfit for a year and gained 30lbs. I’m 6’3” and was 245. I wanted to lose weight before I started working out again and did ideal protein then changed to the keto diet. I got down to 196 in about 3 months. All I did was eat better and cut beer out.
That was hard because I sell beer for a living. 196 seemed to small for me, I started to have a few beers every now and then and eating the on the keto diet and have stayed at 200 for a year. I have built a gym at my house and and started to do Crossfit there.
I got to convience stores and on the road all day so it’s hard to eat right, but it can and I am proof that it works. My wife saw what I did and is doing the same thing now and has lost 30+ lbs as well.
I eat steaks, all the meat I want, and veggies. Just no carbs!

Well I’m 10 days in and about 10 pounds down. I’d say a significant portion of that is the simple fact that I’ve not had any fast food, candy bars or Dr Pepper in that time. Off to a good start anyway.

Off to a good start anyway. Good job there. 6 Months or so ago I started to get serious about getting back in shape, cut out sugar, fast food, soft drinks. Dropped 30lbs in less than 90 days but have hit a wall at 260lbs.

I count calories, eat whatever I want just not over 1200 calories a day, it forces me to eat healthy. I also have the advantage to live on the ranch and I enjoy walking. Usually walk 3-4 miles at about a 15-16 minute mile clip. On the bad weather days I have a recumbent bike I ride. Have lost 11 pounds so far and need to loose about 20 more. Good luck Cow Doc.

Off to a good start anyway. Great job. Keep it up. Try to stay away from the breads also, it all sugars. Don’t know if you have a jimmy johns, or a in and out burger by you, but at JJ you can get their sandwiches with lettuc wrap instead and in and out get lettuce for the bun called protein style. Chick fil nugget 8 count is okay to get. The carbs are really low and I normally get ranch for dipping sauce as well.
