I guess I'm spoiled. We have never had a completely dry run before. Not a single bird. She did one cut back and solid point but nothing was there. They might have run but if they did they left no scent...

It's so dry. She looked like she rolled in flour when we got back. The cows ate it down pretty good but there should be enough cover to hold birds. This was a first..no birds. She didn't push any or nothing. I left the back 400 acres for tomorrow morning. Maybe with some morning dew?? My brother rides in with his dog tonight. Hopefully the two can find something in the morning. At least it was a nice evening to watch her cut it up.

She does not look to concerned:0

My brothers dog found one covey of three birds. No shots fired. It's so dry I'm guessing the birds moved off to better cover

I had two dry runs this year, then found birds in both areas two weeks later. Sometimes the scent just isn't there, but the birds are.

We all need to practice Whoa more.

We hunted morning and afternoon yesterday and I fully concur. Powder dry north of Abilene.
Cover in most areas was extremely sparse. We only had two coveys in about 5 hours of hunting.
That's it until next fall.

I hope we're not heading back into another bird drought but this season makes me wonder.
