I have got old and am having a hard time with my hands becoming very painful when they get cold and it does not have to be below freezing for it to happen. I need something mainly to wear while I'm operating a utv. atv, or tractor. I can make it pretty well with just regular fleece or insulated leather once I get to where I'm going but the ride is terrible on my arthritic hands. Any advice from other's who have the same problem and know of something that will help will be appreciated.

As a road cyclist we have the same problem on cold days. I switch from the fingerless gloves and use batting gloves. Work great. Pick them up at Academy.

For me it's always been difficult finding a glove with the right balance of warmth and dexterity, to include "grippy-ness". What I have found is that those gloves are few and far between. What I've had to go with are the air-activated hand warmers and they have enabled me to spend many more hours on a very cold stand. However, if those don't interest you, maybe you should look at a pair of heated gloves. Most seem to be modestly priced. http://www.ebay.com/bhp/heated-gloves

I have a pair of Carhartt insulated work gloves that I use and they work great. Don't know the model but the tag says "Waterproof/Breathable". They have leather palms and they are completely wind proof.

You guys are talking about motorcycle gloves. Expensive but I have used them when it was too painful to ride with regular leather gloves and never felt the cold after changing gloves.

I use cheap welders gloves from Harbor Freight (Item #39664 - $4.99) while riding a wheeler or using the Jeep or farm equipment. Not that great for welding though.

Look for some military surplus gloves, get the ones with wool liners and leather shells. The wool liners wick moisture off the hands, a little sweat makes them feel colder. Make sure they are loose fitting, tight gloves will slow down blood circulation, and your hands will get cold quicker.
I had some that were mittens with no fingers, but the leather shell had a slit on it that I could slide my finger through. I got them at the base clothing store in North Dakota, they lasted about 30 years, 20 below zero was a piece of cake. They no longer make the shell out of leather, it is a nylon/Gortex like material. Use wool liners with fingers, not the mitten style.

Midway.com has some in it's military surplus section all the time, and their own brand stuff is great too

A cheap alternative to expensive gloves is to buy those cheap brown jersey gloves and a stick them in a pair of leather gloves, may have to go up a size to get a good fit. Grew up in the north and that is a winner if not getting wet.

Same problem here. I found a pair of grippy Under Armour that do the trick. They fit tight and provide dexterity. The grip in the palm and fingertips help with smaller manipulation. I can always add the heavier wool / standard hunting glove over them for the utv ride to the blind and take off for trigger, binoc, or bow work. Academy, Hibbets have them in stock in black or camo. You guys are over thinking this. Go to Army Surplus, get 2 or 3 pairs of the OD glove liners, and some XXL leather gloves that will fit over the gloves. Then you can change them out if they get sweaty or wet. It keeps my hands warm in the coldest of weather (-20) in my UTV here in Idaho in the winter. You can also get the trigger finger wool mittens for about 2-3 dollars more. If you pull your finger out and ball your fist, it will keep them very warm.

Nothing beats a set of electric heated gloves for arthritic hands. A close second is a set of heated grips on the ATV or motorcycle.

I have found that a pair of wool gloves with a pair of leather mittens over them works great for me when riding the atv/utv and I have a long ride (8 miles). With some waterproofing on the leather they don't miss a beat in snow, sleet, or freezing rain.
