We need a standard for this. Maybe 5 shots, and 2 minutes, if it ain't hit in 5 attempts, it doesn't count.

My thoughts is that would turn it into a game of luck. No way you can get all the wind right etc. for a 3 mile shot with a 14 second time of flight.

he did it in 8 shots, the other guy I think 20ish, doesn't count for me either, funky rifle set up, the scopes are mounted about 1 ft. above the bore line. Very game specific equipment.

When stretching the limits of any bullet, or even shooting anything in variable winds (like today) the key is a very fast follow-up shot when you see the miss. Even then, with all that flight time, and terrain changes as well as foliage, there is indeed some luck.

But all a guy can control is cartridge to cartridge loading all be exactly the same. Good form, an observant eye, and the ability to get a corrected shot out quickly, hoping the correction is still appropriate.
