On a cool day hours. Always transport mine on ice, shortest drive time is an hour and some birds have been dead for 3-4 hours when I get in the truck.
If the meat has gone bad you'll know it as soon as you peel the skin back, Just give it a good sniff.

Do you dove hunt?

From the time you kill your first bird or three until the time they are cleaned can be 4+ hours at 95-100F never peeled one back and thought oh that's bad. I'm sure there is a point that happens but I'd say it's not in the same daylight hours of the hunt at 35-60*F

As long as it doesn't get above 50~ degrees we will leave em in the shade belly up sometimes until the afternoon before cleaning them.
