Buddy of mine in south TX is wanting to load up some for his 8 yo son. His son is a smaller framed kid. hes wanting to run the 90 gr SST or and 80 gr soft point.
Never heard of reducing a load for a 243 for recoil but I thought id ask.

I don’t know about handload, but one of my boys shoots a factory load from Hornady that’s reduced. Very little recoil and still quite deadly.

They call it Custom Lite, and it’s loaded with an 87 grain SST.

I can do reduced recoil loads for the 243 with most any bullet, all the way down to subsonic. If you need assistance in some ammo, please give me a buzz.

For reduced recoil loads check out Hodgdon web site for the ones using H4895 powder. https://www.hodgdon.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/h4895-reduced-rifle-loads.pdf

That should get him started in the right direction.

If really lite loads is what he wants AA5744 is what I used (1900-2100fps range)then as they get older work higher with the H4895. I was doing it with 7MM/08 but doesn’t matter same idea. I had best luck using Varmint type bullets as standard hunting bullets passed thru with minimal expansion. Killed fine but had to trail a few.

I second kmon's suggestion using H4895. I used that powder and 110 grain Sierra ProHunter bullets in a .270 Winchester for my daughter when she was growing up.

Luck favors the prepared mind.
