Looking for cheap feeder options that wont be chewed up by squirrels the first week. Never owned one but tired of driving out twice a week to dump corn. I've seen few different cheap ones at big box stores and even Walmart but didn't know what was a waste and what was worth it. Plan to hang from tree/arm off of tree or tripod set up.
Thanks Dale

dig the deepest posthole you can, the deeper the better. fill it up full of corn and pour a few skunked beers in there and them a couple packs of jolly rancher sour apple jello mix. dont do it where you have to mow or drive. or chain a 55 gallon drum with a length of heavy chain to a tree or solid post and drill a few holes in it just big enough for a kernel to fall out of when they bump it around. use a swivel on the chain or theyll break it by twisting it and youll have to go hunt for your barrel.
cool thing about the post hole is once it gets down a couple feet itll start looking like a crater and theyll literally go completely outta sight underground. then run up there and blast with a shotgun

Maybe not to cheap but the best way in my opinion Mummies in SA sells a barrel on welded legs for 110. Then you get timer...another 100 bucks...get a 12v. So under 250 but it'll last forever.

I myself try to buy good quality feeders. Very frustrating to fill feeders the middle of October and then get in the stand on opening morning of rifle season and the feeders don't work. I have two feeders with 12 volt batteries and a solar charger on each. You didn't mention the solar charger on yours, to help with the squirrels a varmint cage would help.

The guy I lease from gave me the best advice I think I've ever received as it pertains to hunting... "Don't try and save money". He couldn't be more correct. That doesn't mean spend with abandon, just means don't buy a cheap feeder for example, you will spend more money on it or it will disappoint you when you show up to hunt and it won't have been feeding for you.
Buy a good stand and fill corn feeder and call it done, one time. If you quit hunting or need to cash out, they're always worth something.

I'm not against spending neccisary money on a feeder just don't need one of the 500lb feeders made to withstand a missle strike. Most likely would go with solar to have one less thing to worry about

get a large piece of PVC (about 6ft long) drill several wholes in the pipe. Cap on both ends and lay it on the ground. Throw a little corn around it. Hogs will push it around to release more corn.

Typically it takes the hogs where I hunt 2-3 days to find it, then another 2-5 nights to empty it. I don't bother to load 'em up if I know I won't be back the following week.

A 55 gallon drum feeder like SW-IRON suggested will last you the rest of your hunting life. Keep an eye on Craigslist, one will come up every week or 2. $50 ought to get you the can and some legs. Mount your old spinner and put a cage around the mechanism and your good to go.
They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason!

They have this same feeder with a beveled pan underneath...keeps the corn from building up below.
