Anyone hunt around Hico/Iredell? Got a buddy with some land out there with a pond and a small winter wheat field used for cattle grazing and am wondering if it’s worth going out there this season to try to get a turkey. I live about 4 hours away in Conroe so wanted to get some opinions if it would be worth it before I go put in the leg work and miles on the truck to Scout. Thanks.

That's a turkey rich area..wouldn't be surprised at all to find turkeys there. Start first of March scouting...they should begin to spread out a bit by then.

" I don't hunt turkeys because I want to, I hunt turkeys because I have to."

I hunt hamilton county, couple weeks ago driving by the cowhouse creek saw a flock of 20+ turkey. Sitting on my place I can hear em when I am in the stand but have never seen any in person on the place. They are definitely in the area though.

I hunt on a ranch in Iredell with ponds and winter wheat fields. We have some turkeys. Not a ton of them though.

We’re probably not far apart.. i hear them from time to time in the fall and may catch a glimpse on an early afternoon sit.. trail cam pic every so often.. but in the spring, they come out of the woodworks.. we’ve seen as many as 40 in a group at once..
I’ve been successful on taking a spring turkey the last 4 years.. they’re definitely in the area..

Nice! I'm 10 or so minutes south of town. I've heard them a couple times. Going to see if I can find any roosts on the place. Like I said, I heard them towards the end of deer season. Idk how far away you can hear a turkey from but I've gotta assume they were pretty close to the property if not on it. I heard them from the south and I was on the north edge of the property. Hoping to have some luck this year.

Was out this weekend, North of Hico and Iredell and south of Glen Rose. Easily saw over 50 Turkeys in total Saturday, and another 20-30 Sunday morning.
