Interested to know if it's common to ditch a spot and move to a new one. We sat an hour in a spot that we crushed them at a few days ago. Only had 1 come in and none flying. Spent 30 minutes picking up and setting up in a backup spot a mile away. Scared 200 ducks out and many came back. Scratched out a 2man and went home. By the way...ducks are looking fantastic this late in the season.

Do you guys move often?

Not really. Usually an adjustment to the decoy spread and or my calling.
But Im no honorary drake pro staff head honcho though. We've got flying v for that.

Mobility is success! Can't get in to the sunken cost of setting up in a location that isn't producing. If the birds aren't in the area or showing any interest I pick up by 7:30. Scout and try and find where the birds are or a flight path to set up on. Slay then know where to go the next day.

I feel like usually if you're not seeing birds before shooting time or immediately after...the spot is not the X for the day. I usually try to give it an hour, but success like today makes me want to move earlier.

I love when people pick up and leave at 8 so I can shoot the morning flight at 9-10:30 when the ducks come to loaf and grab a drink.

I move a lot earlier in the year, figuring out which spots the ducks seem to prefer. After that if ducks start changing that pattern you'll see it while hunting, and slower hunts just turn into scouts for he next trip. Later in the season with more birds around I don't move during hunts, you can usually pull a flight or 2 anyway. I don't mind shooting 1-2 ducks on some hunts, I don't chase limits every day

I have a hard time leaving the lake before 11...woke up too early and drove too far for that. I do like the early quitters running around getting the birds up!

We moved this morning. Scratched out 8 between 2 of us. The spot we were on would have been a good spot...but walk in hunters told us they shot 2 man limit yesterday. I told my buddy we should move 15 after legal if they no show. They no showed us. Walk in guys were really upset we were there lol. Told me we had the entire lake to hunt with a boat. I quickly reminded him the entire lake does not have ducks and we hunt where the ducks are or where we think they are at least.

Absolutely.

Being where the birds want to be vs being where You want them to be can male or break a morning. Taking 20-30 min to move can definitely help a hunt for sure

Unfortunately I walk in to places and avoid big water. So me picking up and moving is a little bit more difficult. Usually I see birds (teal, ringnecks) 15 mins after LST. Big ducks a little later. I have been out by 8:30 limited out everyday for the past month. But usually don't see many big ducks cause of this.

If you don't have ducks coming in at first light then sitting there calling is not going to bring them in. You have to hunt ducks at the place the ducks want to be. If ducks want to be at a specific spot, you can drop a huge spread of deeks 50 yards away and they won't go there.

We moved 100 yards yesterday morning and it made all the difference in the world.

I don't move. I am way to lazy for that. I set up where the birds were and kill what comes back. If they get killed, great. If they don't, great. I act like I know what I am doing but it has been a five year run of "Too busy to go". The first thing I thought of when that last hurricane hit was there goes another @#$ @&$#@% duck season down the drain.

If I see birds piling into somewhere else, I have no problem moving ASAP. But if they don't seem to be flying much in the area, I will sit it out.

I moved again this morning the earliest ever. Shot a 3man in no time at this spot a few days ago. Before LST and 15 minutes after not one single duck even came and looked at us. All piling in a different spot we could see about 1/2 mile away. Moved to said spot, limits. Happy again with another early move.
