Curious what is everyone's thoughts on the 270 wsm? Can get a good/great deal on a Tikka T3 SS (LH) in the caliber. Really want a 6.5x55, but I feel the price might justify its purchase and later getting a 6.5x55.

Mind isn't made up, but am leaning.

I have a Tikka 270wsm and love it!
Best rifle I have ever had.
Accurate,slick action, and great trigger!
270wsm is a great round!
My rifle is right handed, but I shoot left handed.
If you decide not to get rifle, I would be interested in it.

Really like my 270 wsm. Had a stainless Tikka that loved Federal 130 gr Ballistic tips and Winchester 140 gr Accubonds. Only reason I sold it was that I found a Browning X Bolt stainless Carbon Fluted that was a little lighter. Haven't tried anything but the Winchester 140 gr Accubonds in it, but it shoots it right at 1/2", if I do my part.

I have had the RH version of that rifle since 2008. I LOVE IT! It sends 130gr NBT/NAB out at 3250 FPS. Recoil is very manageable. Everyone who shoots it think that it is very 270ish, recoil wise. I kills like lightening. I took it on my aoudad hunt last fall. My auodad was 370 yards. Here is a short video of its performance. Skip to the 1:00 mark to save time.

This is literally the farthest that any animal has ever gone. The rest have gone straight down - dead before they hit the ground. In my opinion, it is as close to the perfect big game package as I could imagine. I also believe that it is the best WSM cartridge. You gain so much more over the comparable rounds (~200 FPS gain over the 270 Win.) than any of the others.

I would say go for it!

ive had my rem 700 270wsm for 11 years now, truckloads of deer, 2 elk, 2 bears , too many coyotes to count and all of them either crumble on impact or within sight. my gun loves federal fusion 150gr and the on game performance is awesome. i will say the only drawback is there is excessive meat damage if the animal is less than 50yds. i just ordered a new savage weather warrior in 270wsm, it will be my fowl weather gun. in my safe there are 243, 270, 7mm mag, 7-08, 300 win mag and 300wby...but i always grab the 270wsm, jjust a personal preference , it doesnt kill anything deader than any of the other guns, but i know when it goes boom something is about to have a funeral

After owning two niche style cartridges, a .270 Weatherby and a .454 Casull, I suggest you stick to a more mainstream cartridge like the .270 Winchester. Will your game be any deader if you again an extra 200 fps?

Availability of ammo can be a issue for the odd cartridges. You can't go to every WaL-Mart or Academy and purchase shells. If you reload the brass is often significantly more expensive for the odd cartridge.

I have been shooting a Winchester Model 70 270 for 50 years and it is great. The 270WSM is even better! I highly recommend it with good 140 grain Nosler Accubond bullets.
