I have always been under the impression that a Bowie knife has the end of the back of the blade sharpened. Based on the Bowie knives posted on here, I think I’ve been wrong.

Beautiful artwork, but you're right...the definition of "Bowie" has sure changed from the original configuration.

One reason you see most Bowies with false uppers is that most states don't allow double edged knives - Texas was included in that until last year ( if I remember correctly any sharpened edge over an inch and a half long). The law stated legal to make and legal to sell and legal to own but illegal to carry?! I made a few for members with sharpened uppers but I made sure they knew the law.
