Count me in the group that has NEVER had an extractor problem with a Savage rifle. I've also never known anyone else personally that has had a problem either. Do I believe it's possible. Sure.
Would I bet that in my lifetime I will never experience it? Yes. I'd take that bet. I have over 30 Savage rifles at last count. That’s a lot of ugly in one place.

I bet we’d say he same about a photo of you. I really don’t see why people find savage riflesnto be ugly. I see very little visual difference between the action and barrel of a savage compared to a Remington.

No doubt you would.
They aren’t that bad, but they aren’t pretty. They do make up for it in shooting.

Another smart move by Savage IMHO Smartest thing they could change would be new steel for their ejector springs, add 50% to the diameter, and start over on their extractor design. Working on anything else is just gimmicks. Sounds like a broke record! Rifle builder friend of mine called me on Tuesday. His customer wants him to rebarrel a Savage action. His customer said "it's not ejecting, can you fix that?". Therefore the phone call to me to ask how the fix happens. Your rifle builder friend calls a fireman for instruction on fixing a rifle?

He clearly has quite a bit of experience with it, so why wouldn’t he call him?

I have had 5 savages, still have 3. They have all been excellent shooters. My latest (and most expensive) has had extraction issues since the beginning. What Fireman says is the truth. I dig a lot of rounds out with my fingers. Not a big deal until I’m shooting a match and having to drop my magazine to get a case out. Then, quite frustrating.

And not many people build on Savage actions. [/quote]
Because a Savage out of the box ALREADY shoots better than most "shooters" can manage. A remington off the shelf is like a piece of driftwood.. It's nothing until an artist spends countless hours, and dollars, sculpting it into something usable.
Yes, Savages leave a lot to be desired in the looks department. I don't buy them for their looks though. I buy them for their ability to put a bullet exactly where I want it, every time, at a price that is HALF, or even less than half, of what it would cost to build a Remington into something even remotely reliable, or nearly as accurate.
Have you guys seen the pictures of the insides of the Remington barrels that were taken with a bore scope? On a brand new, right off the shelf production rifle the lands inside the barrel looked like they were chiseled in by a 6 year old Chinese kid who's only tools are a rock, and a sharpened piece of steel. Isolated incident? I bet it happens MORE FREQUENTLY than a Savage having a faulty ejector, or extractor. So, there's that. And what about those triggers? Where there is smoke, there is fire.
If I were to want to buy a Rem-Junk any time soon it would have to be pre-Cerberus merger time-frame. I do own 1 Remington now though. It's a 26" heavy barrelled, muzzle braked, custom barrel, custom shop built, 6 MM that was sold to me at a rock bottom price due to the owner being in financial problems. I gave $500 for a rifle that had receipts for almost $2K worth of machine, assembly, and trigger work. It still WILL NOT shoot better than my ALL FACTORY Savage 12FV in 243, or the 12FV in 223, or the 110 in 25-06 that I have, or.... this list goes on & on.
I get that some rifles have been built on Remington actions that are VERY accurate. But those rifles are not off the shelf rifles. If I need to spend $2K or more to get an accurate rifle, it won't be $$ spent on a Remington product, nor will it have any Remington parts anywhere on it.
A hog is nothing more than a bullet receptacle.

You're painting with a broad brush.
There's plenty of old and new Rem 700's that shoot well. I have a policy that they all need a Timney trigger, at least. But they tend to eject spent cases.
I've load tested some on factory ammo for a customer that did fine, and load developed for one that was 100% factory. It laid down a 3" group at 500 yards, same as a Savage probably would.
And, there are some models of Savages that have reached higher prices, $800-$1000. And they still have the same crap ejector, and marginal extractor.

Yep, in fact, I intend to be a customer once my new barrel is installed and Chad does load development for me. I want to show up with a rifle and ammo that shoots good, you know, the horse before the wagon.

I've never had a Savage in the shop, or any of ours have the failure... just lucky. I like the new stock, depending on price... I believe JG, no reason not to, but I post on other sites and places on Reddit and never hear anybody else have as many issues with extractor. I’ve owned several savages and the only time I’ve ever had to reach in to grab a spent case is when I’m trying to catch it as it extracts and I knock it back in with my sausage fingers. If I throw the bolt back they always have gone flying. Not questioning what he's seen, he shoots more than me. In fact, he was a savage guy at one time... I shoot probably 2-3k rounds a year in bolt action savage rifles, add about that more for my family and friends. Only failure I ever had was a bad primer batch in some reloads, had several from the same 200 round batch, but that was not going bang, they went in and out fine . I shoot AR platform guns too, and a Remington semi auto 750, so I am not just a Savage nut. But owning a gun shop, I can run whatever, but choose savages.

It does appear that Savage is moving to the 110 action for all calibers including short action calibers. No more model 10.
