So there is an argument on a Ft Hood hunting page. The book states that one of the areas on Ft Hood is Bow only except for small game you can use shot shell. Now when I hear shot shell that means a shell that contains shot as in birdshot or buckshot. A slug is a projectile not considered shot. Now there are a couple guys saying its confusing because shot shell is any shell shot from a shotgun which I don't believe to be true as I have looked up the definition of shot shell. I also brought up that hand guns can shoot shot shells as in snake or rat shot but its considered a shot shell because it contains SHOT and not a projectile. So am I wrong in saying the term shotshell clearly is referring to birdshot or buckshot and not slugs contained in a shotgun shell?

An empty shell would still be considered a shotshell regardless of what came out of it, correct?

Don't think so. A shotgun shell would still be considered a shotgun shell no matter what was in it. But a shot shell contains shot which is traditionally small round pellets.

Well snake shot is usually in a steel hull as birdshot and buckshot is normally in a plastic hull.

Ok, I won't argue that. I suppose I've just always called them all shot shells.
Are people really gonna go rabbit hunting with slugs?

No but on Ft Hood hogs are classified as small game for some reason so they can be hunted in that area with shot shell which common sense tells me is buck shot.

I think you need to go to the authors of that "book" that declares what you can use and where you can use it to make darned sure that you and your fellow hunters on Ft. Hood have the correct understanding of how those folks define "shot shells." Sounds like there's enough misunderstanding to cause some problems.

Its clear as day to me. Even after they called and ask they said you can only use shells containing shot but no projectiles as in slugs.
