I'm looking seriously at a new Mossberg MVP rifle in the LR Tactical for my next hunting rifle in 308. They have the LR Tactical and the Patrol rifles that look very similar, with all of them having a barrel length of 16.25". I've been wanting a similar rifle to my son's compact Tikka 308, since we shoot so much 308. I have loved my little 16" Rem 700 AAC in 300 blk out for many years. But just kicking the tires on something new. The only Mossberg product I own is my first Mossberg 500 pump shotgun, and it's been a tank. Looking at the LR Tactical 16.25" in 308. Anyone have one? http://www.mossberg.com/product/mvp-lr-t-tactical-rifle-27699/http://www.mossberg.com/product/mvp-patrol-rifle-27742/A plus, is these take AR mags. I have many of the 20 round AR-10 mags. Will these 20 rounders work in this rifle? " the MVP, which accepts commonly available AR-style magazines..."

I have a mossberg patriot, different model of course, but it shoots well. Mossberg seems to be doing some good things.

Friend of mine has one in .223. I developed a load that shot 1 1/4" at 300 yards. He smoked a pile of prairie dogs with it in panhandle wind, right after that.
Chambers, shoots tight, ejects, works.

Bought one for my Grandson and played with it. Tikka-smooth it ain't. But it is accurate and functions with 5, 10 and 20 round ar mags. Stock is rather bulky feeling. Trigger is better than you would expect for a rifle in that price range. Probably could use some smoothing out of the rails for the bolt but all in all, not a bad rifle for the $$$. It definitely won't replace your Tikka's! One more thing, I believe it's made here in

Look at Field and Stream in Prosper, I think they have them in stock. Any gun is a cool gun. The HowaMini action is cool too

Might wanna give the Ruger American Predator model number 26974 at look. 308, 18", takes DPMS pattern 308 AR mags.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

Brother owned a MB 100 ATR in 270 for many years. It was an excellent all-around rifle and shot tight groups. I think MB is one of the most under-rated rifle makers out there.

Friend has one of those in their 223 varmint model. It shoots good, but the action is far from smooth, especially if you load up a full mag. Not easy to strip off that top round with that much spring pressure on it. It gets better as rounds are removed.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

I have the Patrol in 5.56. Absolutely love it. Regularly kill groundhogs past 200 with it. Suppressed and AR mags, what's not to love.

I assume that rail over action is bolted on, no?

Looks like all it needs, seeing everyone else's reports, is some valve lapping compound on the bolt lugs, and some time in front of the TV.

I have the Patrol Rifle in 5.56 also. The drop push bolt is a little sticky on occasion but feeds well from just about any 5.56 mag you want to use. Has been plenty accurate for me. I keep mine loaded with 70 gr. Speer SPs as it is my truck/Mule gun and never know if I will encounter a hog or coyote.
