Never had any hogs on any place I hunted so never had a chance to shoot one. Finally saw some on our family place outside Gatesville in Saturday evening. Had a group come through close to the Leon River and was able to get this one using my late grandfather’s 30.06 Had a neighbor who wanted the meat so will be some good foood for him.

Very nice memory. Now you'll be sworn to shooting all hogs on site, welcome to the frenzy.

Congrats on your first hog. If your property is close to the Leon you will have a lot more opportunities to hunt hogs.

They are good eating if prepared them right. Just remember to wear plastic gloves and have no open cuts on your hands while processing the animal. Good luck with many more pigs down the road!

My grandfather bought this place when he was 92. It’s high fenced and we have nonhogs inside it. However there is about 9 acres outside the fence on the Leon river. In the past we didn’t know anything was on that land as it was so over grown. However some cows got on there accidentally and thinned our the weeds and high grasses. We discovered a lot of deer and now hogs moving through. Looks like we will have some fun. We didn’t process this one but gave it to someone who wanted it. Next one we will process and have ourselves. Pretty excited about this extra source of hunting now. My grandfather passed in September and never got to hunt hogs. He would have loved it. So glad I can hunt them now for him. He was 101.

That 9 acre spot could become a honey-hole. Good luck. I'm sure Grandad would be proud.
