Interesting. Never seen a gadwall with green on its head.

You are absolutely right! We killed this one in Chesterville a couple years ago, they are not that rare we see one every few years.

I don't know what a bull gadwall is but that aint one! A really mature gadwall drake in full plumage will have a purple tinge to its head, and maybe a thin white ring like a mallard on its neck. these two are hybrids. Google Gadwall/Widgeon hybrid this is te picture you get

A really nice Gadwall!

To be certain you'd need to pull the wing out. If everything about the plumage is Gadwall except the head then I doubt a hybrid.

A hybrid would have other differences.

I don't believe that's a hybrid.

Just because that is on google images doesn't mean it's a hybrid. I could be wrong but a Wigeon/Gaddie hybrid would showing more Wigeon the bill and wings. Although this bird on google does show some Wigeon.

There's not much your bird or 68A's bird that says Wigeon/Gaddie to me.

About 60% of what we shoot is gadwalls. Out of the who knows how many Drake’s we’ve shot, I have never come across one like in the picture I posted or lma. I believe a hybrid could show different variations based on dominant gene.

Either way it's a really cool bird!

Thanks, I thought so too. Just something new to me. It ate well on a jalapeño and wrapped in bacon cool

Just looks like a colorful gadwall to me. I've shot a couple with the really light colored face like that, and I've seen a few with the black on the throat
