hunting, deer out to 500 yards. once I have it all put together, I will shoot it, making sure I can make first round hits, (ethical shots)
I will also stretch it out as far as I can on steel for fun. I will run out of elevation around 600-700 yards

What about the McWhorter 6.5 Weatherby and the 6.5 Fieldcraft did/do you not like for this purpose?
Just trying to distill down the issues and options.
The McWhorter seems like it should have been very good for this hunting application, and the banging steel to longer distances.
The super light rifles are not my cup of tea. Had a Kimber Montana in 308 which was nice to carry, but miserable to shoot.
So I can understand if that is an issue.

I sold the McWhorter, still have the Fieldcraft, love it and for now keep it. Its a shooter (for me anyway), light and balances perfectly. I will put the new Swaro Z6 on it and see how she does.

Buzz,
the Fieldcraft looks like a wonderful hunting rifle.
Lighter bullets such as 120's going faster might be better for hunting from the shorter barrel, especially 0 - 250.

Buzz, I use a 260 with a 22" barrel sometimes and worked on loads and tested them on deer and pigs for my nephews to use. My favorite load is the 100 gr Barnes TTSX at 3100 fps. It can be pushed to over 3200 fps, but best accuracy was at 3100 in my rifle, which has a 1:9" twist. H4350 or H414 are good in the 260 and would guess they would be in the 6.5 CM as well. H414 is always available, so tried it when H4350 was nowhere to be found. It actually produces better velocity and accuracy with a bit less recoil, but is more temperature sensitive. The 120 TTSX, 120 Nosler Partition or Nosler Ballistic Tip all work too. Might give the nod to the Noslers in the 120 gr weight over the 120 TTSX for does or smaller deer. The Barnes definitely work better on pigs, especially the really big ones. For deer, put it in the high shoulder or even better on the front point of the shoulder with the deer quartering at you so it exits just behind the offside shoulder, it does not ruin much meat and will punch through. For pigs, the base of the ear is my first choice when it can be made reliably. http://www.barnesbullets.com/files/2017/10/6.5Creedmoor.pdfhttps://load-data.nosler.com/load-data/65-creedmoor/
