From my perspective that also applies to taking it on and off the same rifle, regardless of whether you're shooting it without. For example, you may take the can off just to transport the rifle, maybe so it'll fit in a Pelican case or something like that. When you put the can back on there is no guarantee you'll have a repeatable zero again depending on the quality of the can mounting system. MY TBAC does, my YHM does not. It's not off every time, and not off by much when it is... never more than 1.25". But that can be a lot, depending on your circumstances.

Wow! I'm pretty shocked by that. I see what you are saying. I've never seen that from my Omega but I've only moved them a couple of times. I will check this out next time I go to the range.

So I take it the Griffin products do have the reputation for consistent poi shift, with to without.

Unlike the serviceable feature, the full auto rating does seem like it's worth it. Knowing that there is a difference means I might always bee a bit more cautious with the hunter. While with the 7, I like the idea of not worrying if I could abuse it too much in one sitting. More durability is usually worth the price and weight when it comes to guns.
U can say your pencil ar barrel is better and possibilities are low for doing it, but rather more durable so I can abuse when I want, hence my government profile barrel in this analogy.

I usually take the can on and off and do to make sure it’s repeatable.

However when I go elk hunting I double check my zero and then never take it off till after the hunt

I take my cans off all the time when transporting/storing them. I never see that much POI shift after putting them back on. I'd guess it's something with your mounting system.
Only reason that I would be shooting without the can is if I were hunting in a state where it's not allowed.

It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

I take my specwar off before and after each hunt/each time I shoot. I’ve never had a noticeable POI shift in between.

I have never noticed POI shift with either of my Omegas on my precision rifles, and I check for it often. I have never been more than 1 click off, and that could very easily (probably) be my form or the wind.
