Well, may have found my truck gun. Just read an article on this rifle/caliber combo. Looks like its very accurate out to 200 yards on 2 and 4 legged animals shooting Federal Fusion
10-30 round mags available from ruger. if leupold ever returns my vx3 from repair. ill be in business
for double the price I could get the Springfield Saint Edge lightweight AR

Mine shot great with cheap steel case, not worth buying the Fusion in my opinion.

I built my own AR in 7.62 X 39 and it is deadly out to 200 yards. One shot kills on deer every time; mostly one shot kills on piggies if I put the bullet where it belongs. It has accounted for every type of varmint and vermin we have around here in CenTex. It's easy to reload and has run like a champ since the first day I took it to the range.

Oddly enough, it shoots steel case Monarch from Academy very, very tight. We even ran it out on steel to 600 yards. Load it with Federal American Eagle, and it shoots like crap.

Chad, suppose I'd like to buy just a couple of boxes of them to see how/if they run in my rig? What would that cost me??

Don't want to highjack this thread but it seems that some of my questions can be answered here. I'm going to pick up an AR 7.62x39 upper and had heard that it won't run some 7.62 ammo due to hard primers. Also wondered if it will run lacquer coated. I have about 2000rnds of wolf lacquer coated and was curious if I need to sell it and buy some polycoated to replace it. I am selling my AK. Just don't like the way it handles. Does anyone have any experience running lacquer in AR?

I have no problems with lacquer in the 7.62x39 AR that I built. I used an "enhanced 7.62x39" firing pin in my bolt and have no problems. Not sure if your upper came with it. It is slightly longer to bust the primers better. Easy to swap firing pins on an AR....

I've built many ARs. Never in 7.62x39. I haven't ordered this one yet. Looking at Primary Arms 10.5" upper. I just saw at my ammo outlet that they didn't recommend some of their 7.62 for the AR platform. They clarified that with either the enhanced spring kit or firing pin it could be remedied. Just didn't know if the lacquer would cause a maintenance cleaning issue.

If you're a heavy, hard user (hundreds and hundreds of rounds in one outing so that everything gets so hot you can't touch it) then you might run into issues with lacquer melting. If you aren't Rambo Incarnate by trying to slidefire lots of stuff downrange, I think you'll be just fine. I run it regularly in my home-made, and have never had a failure to feed or function, nor have I had any indication that it is lacquering up.

Well I'm too old to play Rambo so I expect it'll be just fine. I plan to use it for pigs, coyotes and deer. Probably run suppressed. Sounds like I need to just hang on to the lacquer and see how it works. Thanks all.
