Nice shot. Some is luck too, I've put it through both lungs and had them run 1/2 mile and others drop almost instantly.

You talking bowhunting or success in bowhunting? A big part of success is hunting where a decent population of animals exist. Thats where it all starts....then whats already mentioned comes in handy.

Good shot btw

Comfortable with your equipment, proper fit. Buying a bow off the rack and not getting it to fit you but rather you adjusting to fit the bow is very common and the downfall to a bow hunters ability to be successful. Then there's practice, practice, practice also 3P's.

Buddy of mine was hunting an accidentally knocked an arrow with a field point.

He drew back on a fallow doe before he noticed.

He aimed for the heart and let it rip, drilled it dead center of heart deer ran 30 yards and tipped over

You hit the heart they are done.

I would say the same for both lungs but they may run aways without a big cut

Lets be honest a shaft sized hole thru both lungs /heart is gonna put a hurting on just about anything

Ive been using micro diameter shafts in my halon and they will pass completely thru a layerd block target so penetration isnt an issue.

Very true, been running the micro diameter shafts off and on for years. Right now have gold tips and for real deep penetration deep six FMJ

First micro carbon I got was in 97 from Beeman. I prefer the Gold tips to the FMJ for my setup since they like the victory Vaps use an outsert for bettet broadhead selection.

Actually in the 80s I shot 1918 easton XX75 arroe shafts, and noticed much more penetration in the targets shooting competition than guys shooting more poundageand fatter arrows

Ive shot three animals with mine so far they hold up great.

Gonna keep using them.

Any downsides to using them other than the collar I have to use?

I have heard some say there is an accuracy disadvantage with them but I have not seen it. If your bow is tuned to them I see no reason not to use the micros. That is unless you are shooting competetion where you get credit if the arrow is barely touching a scoring ring, then use Easton Fat Boy arrows.

I have not heard about any accuracy disadvantage?

Im interested in using them because I have some western hunts comming up where I will have longer shots and heavier winds

The micros really shine in winds and it has been blow hard tournament archers that tried to tell me that the thin arrows are no where nearly as accurate as thick shaft arrows which they said wobble less. I just thought about one guy I know that I have seen shoot a 5 inch six shot group in a pronghorn target at 106 yards with his Bowtec bow. I think if you can shoot the thin arrows have all the accuracy you will need hunting and penetration is greatly improved with the thin shafts. Especially those using outserts and standard size broadheads that open a whole and the arrow is through the critter before the shaft starts dragging very mych to slow it down.

Correct me if Im wrong but doesent spine determine shaft rigidly and a micro vs. a standard diameter shaft with identical spines will wobble the exact same?

There is a little difference, stiffness of the shaft is measured by spine but the oscillation of th larger diameter shaft are more quickly stabilized than the skinnier shaft. really the difference is very small and not enough for most of us to ever know. I will take the lessened wind drift and deeper penetration of the skinny shafts over perhaps or perhaps not a very small accuracy improvement.

most I know that shoot the fatter arrows such as the fatboy arrows are looking for hat arrow touching a scoring ring instead of being very close
