Looked at a bunch, never fired a shot. Looks like an exotic hunt may be in order for Mrs. B and I.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

For the first year I can remember, I didn’t even buy a Texas hunting license. No Whitetail even targeted this season.
My hunts included archery elk in New Mexico, rifle mule deer in Alberta, and some duck hunting in Louisiana.

Second year in a row I went dry. Last year was health issues, this year I saw the one I wanted a few times but he never gave me a shot.

Zero. Passed on a couple of pretty decent bucks.

On our lease 4 out 6 didn't fire a shot at a deer. We sure feed a lot of deer! We are going to have a bumper crop of fawns it appears only taking one doe my son shot. I only saw one shooter 6:30 am opening morning and didn't have a shot and never went to a feeder all season.

This hunting forum is getting so bad the thread should read. “ Who here is a deer watcher and not a deer hunter? Maybe we should give them all another year and see how they turn out.” I take offense to that, as that certainly was not the issue with me. mine was lack of motivation to go sit in the woods, pure and simple.

I actually killed a deer this year, so technically I can’t participate.
But most years I don’t. I am a watcher more than a shooter, this I admit. I’m still hunting though. Hard. I’m just hunting differently than I used to. I don’t define hunting as having to kill one anymore.
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

Unless one steps out in the next hour or so I will not have shot a deer for the first time in forever. I have had many easy opportunities to take a couple of nice bucks that would have netted me 4 cases of beer I decided this year I was not going to shoot anything but a really big buck during the regular season, if that did not happen I would shoot a spike or a big fat single doe during the extended doe/spike season. Well no spikes have shown up and even though I have seen plenty of does, the only plump ones had kids with them and the single does were young and lean so I passed. Great year saw a lot of bucks and does up close would have been nice to get the big one or a chubby girl, I hunted hard it just did not happen, maybe thats why they call it hunting

I didn't pull the trigger either. Hunted plenty, passed on several decent deer, but I come to enjoy watching other people pull the trigger. My daughter killed a decent buck on our home place, my son shot a doe, and I gave my buddy the opportunity to shoot a 7pt cull deer.
The one buck I should have shot I passed to try and let my boy take him. Saw the deer 3 out of the next 4 hunts with only one opportunity to shoot. Just couldn't get it done. We had to switch chairs ect... and by that time he didn't present a good shot. We have two more weeks for him to try and take him. Hopefully we get it done.

Nothing here, brother in law sold most of his land and I had limited time. Only went and shot ducks with my son since that is within an hour of the house. I know how Stub loves his duck hunters.

Maybe we should give them all another year and see how they turn out.” I don't get that line of thinking at all. Never getting a shot at the bull of the woods because you shot him when he was a 2 year old (as my old man would say) pencil d^ck lol. I shot a doe last weekend will try to get at least another doe. Still looking for a few no brow deer that have disappeared. Passed on a 3-4 year old 140's 12 and a 120's 11 this weekend because they will be a lot more next year.

I did shoot a doe, but now that my kids are in the deer shooting age range I shoot a lot less.
I had 2 kids shoot deer, including my son who shot his first nice mature buck.
I would have killed one very nice, old deer if my son wasn't with me. I was letting him shoot, and he just can't execute as quickly as I would have. That big ol' boy didn't just give us long. But I'd rather invest in my kids having fun at this stage and just shoot when/if I can. I've hunted many years before this stage of life, and I'll hunt plenty after.

I will kill three before the end of February.. just have not felt the need so far. Besides that, it has been a weird year. I know there are a lot of deer in our area but not much moving

I passed on a spike and a bunch of does on Thanksgiving weekend - I didn't have any desire or need for the meat. When i got in from my last hunt of that weekend, my FIL mentioned that he wanted a deer for snack sticks and would pay for it. Too late.
That said, I usually hunt a place that extends the season until the end of Feb and needs does killed. I'll try to get one then.

I didn’t. Held out for 145” minimum. Never saw one that size That means they will be all that much bigger next year!

No deer this year. I didn't log enough time. I did more prep work than hunting, but the family stuff on the weekends was worth it. Maybe next season.
The deer I did see were spikes or small racks. I only saw one that was legal, I think, but it darted across an opening too quickly. There were deer out there that would have been nice that showed up on cameras. The large bucks were nocturnal based upon the photos.

I was working way more than usual due to Hurricane Harvey recovery, so I only made it into the field a couple of times. No deer for me.

We’ve only filled 7 of 22 MLD tags.. and I filled two of those.. It’s been a really tough year, but many of our members always hold out for the big one and the season slips away before you know it.. I’m sure we’ll knock a few more doe down this weekend.

Didn't even make it out this year.....had a couple of opportunities but schedule and family issues prevailed......

That's odd. You always claim how great the hunting is on your 40 acres, how it hunts better than places 10x the size. & you being such an awesome hunter, yet didn't get a deer? Something doesn't add up........

Hunting got cancelled for me this year, a buddy and myself spent all of last year driving 2.5 hours to fill feeders, help manage the property and such only to have the land owner say only family can hunt this year. We weren't paying but the property manager had a deal set up with us. Really bummed, had bought a crossbow and climbing stand for bow season, bought a 50 cal muzzle loader for after regular season. So we're currently looking for a cheap lease
Go get in the woods

Haven't taken a WT in many a year. Been hunting for a spike or 2 year old Axis but haven't seen one yet. But the Axis season isn't over for me until it gets hot.

Max, odds are I have better deer than you claim to have and I have a lot of acres to hunt, probably more than you have and just hunt a 40 acre trap. We don't lease and haven't in years and the neighbors don't lease as well, so our deer have a chance to mature. And we don't worry our self sick about them retrieving a deer off of our property. I'm surprised your not guarding your fence lines.

My freezer is still full of venison ... I can't eat fast enough! So I passed on whitetail deer this year. I did shoot my first hog that didn't get up and run away afterwards. Ray's in Breckenridge turned her into the most delicious breakfast sausage I have ever eaten!

I haven’t pulled the trigger in years. Too busy “guiding” my kids. bow season next year is really my only chance. Too much fun hunting with my kids even if we don’t shoot one. Wouldn’t trade those times for anything.

I find myself spending more time / money at the lease these days than what I did years ago.....................and shoot less deer. It's done with a purpose. There was a time I went for the kill. Now I just go for the thrill...........of being out there. Success is not a bloody tailgate or a rack purposely positioned out of the back of the truck for others to see. I had one buck I was interested in taking and he did not cooperate. Many others did but they were not what I was looking for. I took one fat doe and a bunch of hogs. Could I have filled my tags? I could have been done in bow season. The deer lease provides so much more to me than notching out a tag from my hunting license. All of the time spent working on blinds / feeders, feeding, hours in the blind, cooking meals at camp, that quiet ride back after the evening hunt, etc. is the most therapeutic thing I know. My most memorable part of this season had to be the last weekend of regular season. I had both of my boys (25 and 20 years old) at the lease at the same time in probably 10 years. There wasn't a deer I could have shot to top that.

I haven't yet, but also had a lot of restraint this year allowing young bucks to walk. Have lots of doe to choose from, might take one this weekend... might not, it's duck hunting time.

Nope but by choice. I'm seeing more and more deer on my place each season. My son and nephew both got one on my place. I hunted probably more than most on here but just couldn't find the one and that is fine with me. I just really enjoy growing them and making my place better for the next season.

ME!! I pretty much only hunt pigs and an occasional varmint these days.
You might find this funny but I haven't shot a deer with anything but a camera since about 1996. I only shot one then because my Step-Dad was getting too old to climb the stand safely and wanted venison.
I do manage my place and have friends and family hunt deer here so I'm not completely out of touch.... One of my "adopted" kids got an 8pt and 10 pt at my favorite pig stand with rifle. My Daughter-in-Law got a nice 8pt with her bow.

Put down a 3" spike and two does this weekend to tag completely out for the year. Gave one of the does to a disabled neighbor that wanted a deer. The spike is all link sausage, the other doe is steak/strap/chili grind.

I almost didn't get a deer, so I can't sit with you because I got a spike the second to last weekend of muzzle loader season. An inch or two higher on the shoulder and I'd be sitting with you guys right now! I sure like the sound of the bang, the huge puff of smoke where you can't see anything, and you hear the "PLOP" when that .54 caliber chunk of lead makes contact.

Third or fourth year in a row I haven't even bothered buying deer tags. Just haven't felt interested in it for a while.

I’m responsible for the death of probably 150+ whitetails each year. But I can’t afford to kill them myself. I kill aoudads and pigs for meat.
