I was supposed to hunt with my brother in law last week, but he canceled the night before. I had already taken off work so I told my wife I was going solo. Got setup in the pond and the sound of gadwall filled the air. I told myself since I just needed 6 that I was going to be very picky. I passed on several ducks in the early light, hoping for just drakes. I dropped a pair of wigeon to start off the morning. I spent the next 45 minutes passing up shots on gadwall and green wing hens, waiting for some of the stud blue wing I had seen flying around. I turned around and noticed a pair of cinnamon drakes coming at me. I shot one that hit the water with his head up and he hauled a$$ for the reeds. I spent 20 minutes looking for that bird to no avail. I got back in the brush and cussed myself over and over for not folding that bird. About 30 minutes later I looked over and sure enough, here came 4 cinnamons. I picked out the first drake I saw and folded him on the 2nd shot. He's the second cinnamon I've killed in Texas, actually killing my first one in the same pond 4 years ago. Going back again tomorrow to try and shoot some more of them. I topped off my limit with 4 species. Gadwall, wigeon, blue wing, and cinnamon teal.

If you dont mind me asking, what part of the state did you hunt? Been wanting a Cinnamon for years but not sure where to shoot them.

This was around palacios. i know of about 3-5 a year in SE Texas that get killed, but they're so sporadic. When I killed my first one it was a drake/hen pair, and last week I was lucky enough to see 8 of them (at least 3 drakes) and shoot 2. A buddy of mine hunted the pond 2 days later and saw and missed a drake. I'm going back tomorrow and may not even see one, but hoping I do. Your best bet if you want to stay in the state is go west for a few days. If you're willing to travel, then I'd hunt Nevada, Utah, California, or make it a whole new experience and book a hunt in Mexico and kill several. I went last year and shot about a dozen just myself

Awesome! And are those RIO Blue I see in the background? Did you really shoot them with Blackcloud and sprinkle those empty hulls to make it look like you shot with Rio?

Screw black cloud! Shot Kent for the last few years but tried the Rio's this year. Overall I've been happy with them. Just wish I had bought the 1 1/8 ounce that shoot faster than the ones I have. Still a good load that has been rolling the ducks and geese this year
