I understand the need for the latest and greatest equipment. What I cannot understand is the need to use a black rifle with 30 round magazine to deer hunt. Surely, no one in his right mind thinks that a whitetail is going to stick around while you continue to shoot and miss.

While I do own an AR, none of my hunting rifles have detachable magazines.
Never been to a camping world. I prefer Dick's to be honest.

Everyone should have the same single shot rifle issued to them.

Guys are now carrying rifles with big drop down mags and big honking suppressors in the mountains.
Just goes to show marketing, the “cool factor”, and peer pressure are strong influences on many.

Surely, no one in his right mind thinks that a whitetail is going to stick around while you continue to shoot and miss. I really believe that's the reason why. Everyone would like to have the latest/greatest. However, compared to my old Remington 1917, there's some benefits with an AR Platform: - Much lighter to carry - Lots of modification options While I don't own an AR, I do plan to have one. As far as a whitetail sticking around, there's a video circulating of someone taking 4-5 shots at a whitetail..and missing all of them. Maybe his/her scope wasn't sighted in, or maybe they need to spend time at the range aiming.

Maybe they can only afford one gun at this time, and went with an AR platform.
I just turned it on . I was looking bird dogs in the butt this morning.

I've seen pics on this forum of over 30 hogs at a feeder. So if the hunter is hunting deer and hogs in an area infested with hogs, then it would make sense to me.
I started hunting with an AR10 in 308 to give myself better odds killing more hogs while deer hunting. I prefer a ten round mag though. If the hogs start showing up in greater numbers I'll go to a larger mag.
As far as the rifle for deer hunting, I like the non-reflective black finish, collapsible stock and the sling options to keep my arms free but my rifle at the ready if needed.

The problem with your statement is that you are trying to understand the need. As long as the caliber is sufficient to take a deer, it matters not what platform the rifle is as long as the shooter can shoot it straight. So if the hunter wants to carry an AR for deer. More power to him or her. On another note, the AR platform with a collapsible stock makes a great rifle for a kid just starting out. Also, you can buy 5 rd mags, 10 rd mags, 15 rd mags...etc. Thank God this is a free country!

This^, nice to let the kiddo shoot something that has an adjustable stock. Also throw my suppressor on so a 5 year old girl isn't as worried about the noise/recoil.

I do it because I only want to buy one gun that meets all my needs. I typically carry a mag with10 rounds in case the pigs show up.
I will be buying a traditional hunting rifle down the road though primarily because they are lighter and easier to maintain/clean.

I have and have had many wood stock guns. Spent most of my life in the west, mountains and plains of Colorado and Montana. A long range heavy gun is necessary and a heavy kick is part of it, getting 1 shot typically so easy to deal with. In Texas I use a black gun, close combat in the woods typically 100 yds more or less, with hogs around, so fast on target, little to no kick, easy to carry, can hunt at night for hogs and predators so accessories are abundant if desired. An AR15 is durable, weather proof and a hoot to shoot, men like to shoot stuff, and my wife likes the fact that it doesn't knock her backwards which takes away the fear.

I won't say "too heavy to carry around", as lots can be carried if one just wants to do it. My point is it's unnecessary weight to carry around for those type hunts. I don't worry about hearing protection on a hunt, but if I was I would use 50 cent foam earplugs in that context. Also don't need big magazine in that context.

The only thing I don't like about supressors is the price tag and the need for the tax stamp/application process. If I could walk into a store and buy one I would have one.

I only use my .223 30 rounder while hunting on the fence line of my neighbor from an huge elevated blind with a heater after I still hunted the entire 20 acres, on my way to said blind with a spear, barefooted in a loin cloth and uphill the whole way. I think I have bested you all.

Yea the vegas shooter really screwed us on that one. I'm not a conspiracy type of guy but the timing of that was a little too convenient.
