Stepson's unmodified .308 Win, load testing. 168 gr A-Max, and H-Varget I don't know why both pics are rotated 90°. The .60" was the vertical spread. 100 yards, and I should have tested at 200. . . . I didn't shoot 5, because I don't know if the barrel thickness can take it. Now that I know "the charge" we can find out later.

Nice shooting, congratulations to you and your stepson. That looks like a split group. Try that COAL +0.010" and +0.020" as long as there is 0.010" of clearance to the lands.

Nice. How many grains of Varget are you running? My Remmy 700 seems to like 168 Amax on top of 43.5 of Varget.

Very good chance the others would produce very similar groups. But the Savage won't cycle and eject as well. The Rem would need a $130 trigger.

That's 45.1 gr. 44.8 gr printed .73" tall X .25" wide. 45.3 gr printed .90" tall X .49" wide. So .3 gr above and below still shot acceptable, but of course I gotta go with the best, right in the middle. I went all the way to 46.0 gr, got no pressure signs and did not exceed a 1.20" group.

The browning would need a new stock first if it was a Duratouch model. Mine melted.

Glad to hear you admit that. I can live with the rem trigger just fine. While I wish the savage fed better I would take the ability to change barrels in my garage over better feeding.

Did you pull that one on the left? Actually, that would be high if the pic was oriented properly. And no, I didn't.

You've NEVER seen me write that a Savage doesn't shoot tight, because they do. The Rem 700 trigger is not the fact that maybe they feel bad, it's the fact that there's been way too many people have accidental discharges at the fault of the trigger. I know two people it has happened to. $130 is dirt cheap to avoid an accidental discharge that could've hit a person.

I gave him that scope and rings, off of a .223 bolt action that almost only serves as a second praire dog rifle. Not sure what stock pack he bought. I told him to get a Triad, but it doesn't look like a Triad.

noticed your comment about the barrel thickness, you think the CTR barrel contour would have an issue?

noticed your comment about the barrel thickness, you think the CTR barrel contour would have an issue? Nope. Had several CTRs on my range. If memory serves, they will go 10 rounds of fairly rapid fire, before they string. But those were 6.5 Creedmoors, so more steel outside the bore.

More if I take it slow.

Glad to see you got him a real mans caliber. He was living in California at the time. I knew, in the event I didn't mail him hand loads in time, he could find high quality .308 ammo. He's living here now, and if I was getting him a rifle today, it would be the same rifle in, you guessed it, 7mm-08

Hope my Tikka on the way will be as accurate. The rifle will be, but I can't speak for the mass produced ammo. Maybe so. If it doesn't shoot as tight as you'd like, contact Chad, and he will wring out all the rifle can do.
