All, I own about 400 acres South of Freer Texas in Duval County. The property is primarily dense brush with a rich sandy soil and high protein plants. We have three water holes with water year round. We have three feeder pens and free choice Purina Record Rack Protein year round. We have a strong whitetail herd that we manage and a heard of Scimitar Oryx. We started with two female and two male scimitars about four years ago and now have about 20. Ten of these have Horns over 35". Some over 40".

I would like to have a broker dart and buy about Ten scimitars. What would be a fair price for these?

I would also like to bring in a couple more exotic species. I need help understanding What animals would thrive in this area of Texas like our Scimitars? Our Neighbor has a similar setup and has Aoudads, black Bucks, Fallows, and Axis. The Coyotes and bobcats have killed four black bucks and 7 Aoudads so far. Aoudads and Black Bucks are ruled out due to they do not have enough open pasture to defend themselves from predators.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Sorry cant help you on price for live oryx sales, but you are on right track for the other species. BB and auodad do seem to have issues on smaller places in S TX but Axis and fallow do well.

Your best bet is to stick with the Oryx. From what I have seen and heard they are about the only ones that that can be raised in coyote country.

I would join some of the Texas exotic breeder and hunting groups on FB and ask them what they suggest. A lot of land owners and outfitters on there that are really good about sharing what works and doesn't.

That area of Texas is great for most of the African species (which are somewhat pricey to purchase)....but also for most anything else. There should be very few species that don't thrive in that environment.

You might also look into having some of your place cleared....wouldn't take much, maybe 10-20% to completely change the feel of the place and make some of the grazing species much happier and healthier.
