This is my first deer season on the forum and I've really enjoyed reading all of your stories and advice so I thought I would share my best buck to date, by far.
I hunt a small piece of property in Medina county with high pressure, so most of the mature deer we kill are 110" at best, and I'm typically pleased with that. However, we have another piece of family property on the other side of highway 90 with better hunting but some family drama that makes it difficult to access. I decided to get out there and give it a try for a few days as I would be off work between Christmas and New Years, I cleared a long road down the middle of the property, hand corned a spot and hung a camera.(There are no blinds, feeders, etc out there) Checked the camera a week later and saw the biggest deer I had ever seen at either of our properties and the hunt was on.
Being as there are no blinds or anything like that I camoed up and laid at the far end of the road with a few branches in front of me as cover and settled in on Christmas eve. Lucky for me this one actually went how it was supposed to and on Christmas morning God blessed me with a heck of a gift. He stepped out at 7:35 and I let my 25-06 ring at 7:40. This was the only deer I've ever killed that had the opposite of ground shrinkage, and I'm still ecstatic. I've never seen mass on any of our deer like this, not a booner, but scored him at 130, and as I said earlier, much bigger than any of the deer I've seen in 15 years out there. This one is going on the wall.... Sorry for the long post, thanks guys.
