Last year asked if 240 gr XTP HP with 23 gr WIN. 296 in 44 mag from my Marlin 1894 would be ok for deer. He said it was, this week hammered two, a cull 5 point and 9 point, they never took a step. Both were neck shots at 70-80 yards.

Have none, 5 pointer had one antler hanging down, it was just loose not even connected to the skull. 9 pointer was 17 1/4 outside but not much mass.

I've shot a lot of deer with a 14" TC Contender in .44 mag, many with the Hornady XTP 240 gr bullet. In my opinion inside 100 yards it kills deer quicker than a .30-06 with 150 gr corlokts. They usually drop within sight and no tracking is necessary. Usually have a little tracking with the .30-06.

Have been shooting 240 grain XTPs out of my .44 Mag 12” Encore pistol for a lot of years. As noted above, it is bad medicine on deer. Rarely have one take more than a step or two after impact. Don’t recall having to track any of them.

Going to try this load out, generally use 2400, 250gr cast bullets and standard primers for my 44mag.
Are you guys using magnum primers?
